I have my PS2...
I have a rather lovely Technics 5.1 Pro Logic system
Problem...
My PS2 has a Digital Optical Out for 5.1 Audio... My Technics System has a "DVD 5.1, 6 channel input" ( L, R, rearL, rearR, Center and Sub )
Any ideas how to connect the two? I currently use a standard L&R phono cable into the 2 channel option my system has on the back but some how I feel like I'm missing out on something? Like TRUE 5.1 on DVD playback!!
Obviously not all of us have a DTS amp with Digital in, and I'm sure that not all of us intend to go out and purchase and extremely expensive amp just to have 5.1 playback? So is there an answer?
Digital - Analogue converter possibly?
All ideas welcome!!

sorry can't help :-(
dunno then. :)
1) Is it Dolby Digital or Dolby Prologic?
If it was a Dolby Digital stereo then it should have a digital input, but if it was Dolby Prologic, then it wouldn't because the Dolby Prologic signal is carried through standard left and right audio channels.
2) You have more speakers than is usually possible for Dolby Pro Logic, unless it is a Dolby Prologic 2 stereo system, the same as the Gamecube will use.
3) Does the stereo have it's own DVD player, as I think someone has already asked? Then it might not have a Dolby Digital input.

It's Dolby Pro Logic with a 5 channel input (5xphono front right, front left, rear right, rear left and cetre plus one for sub) Like on some DVD players... its the previous model of the SC-EH770.
You SHOULD be able to simply plug in the red and white leads to your Amp.
I've got a Pioneer pro-logic amp and that doesn't actually have anything other than stereo (red/white(or black)) inputs.
Failing that, try to locate the two connectors that are for the 'front' sound field.
I'd imagine that this way your amp should be able to sort out the rest without requiring individual connections.
I don't actually know of any kit (videos etc) that has individual pro-logic outputs as only the stereo signal is required.
Strange.
OK, your system is 5.1 (not pro logic).
This means that it should at least have an optical OR coaxial digital input.
If it doesn't, then your system doesn't have an on-board decoder in which case it relies on a DVD player that has one instead. That would mean that you have all of the individual leads (front l/r, centre, rear l/r, sub) coming FROM your player.
This is not possible with the PS2 of course as there is only the optical output option.
Basically, you're not going to get 5.1 from your PS2 without having an optical input on your amp.
I HOPE that's the answer (if not the one you were hoping for).
Phew.

Thanks very muchly for this... It looks like my only option will be to go off and purchase a DTS amp or a better stereo!!
