I finally managed to clock my system on 3D Mark 2003 (not the pro one) and scored a somewhat crappy 4969 marks, looking at other peoples results I get the feeling this isn't right but I can't figure if I've done something wrong !

Here's the info gained from the program and the rating I got with it. If anyone has any pointers as to how to improve it I would mych appreciate it, for the test the graphics card was set to optimal for D3d and OpenGL - this setting is the middle one of 5 ranging from best performance to best quality, and CPU had Hyperthreading disabled.
I'm going to try one with it enabled a bit later to see if there is any difference, also I opened task manager and I have 34 processes running ! Is this high ??

Thats a good score. I get 5600 with a 9800 Pro 1024mb DDR333 and a XP2800. Going to install the new ATI drivers and see what I get with those.

Thanks for the mention of the OCUK forum, whilst I don't really want to mess around too much with settings I took a look and found many interesting threads/links to read - noticed that many other people have said they dropped a thousand + points in 3D Mark 2003 when they installed the new ATI Drivers, but anyway, there was a lot of good info on the site and its links.

Indeed, 5000-6000 is right with a DX9 card, anything before that and you've got no chance ;) I got 1073 with this box before upgrading the graphics card (xp1700@1992mhz, 512mb ram, GF3 ti500), stick in a 9800 pro and it gets 5672..

There's a long list of tweaks for 3dm on the OCUK forums if you're that bothered, but sniper's right, FPS are what count, actual noticeable difference in games.
