That's something that struck me, all these sites I've looked on reporting cases such as these were all American, and I was thinking these yank companies would not be able to enforce their laws over here.

I also found out about a different p2p client called Earthstation 5. Anyone know anything about this? They claim to have some sort of stealth thing built into their program ensuring complete anonymity (spelling?)
So I downloaded it, had a look at it. If it is as it says, completely anonymous I may start using this, except I'd rather use kazaa really because I think the people who wrote this Earthstation were Trekkers. Eg. In the options, instead of a 'Save' or 'OK', it says: 'Make it so'. And the flashing spaceships are quite unnerving to say the least. Anyone using this?

It's largely scare tactics, and working quite effectively. I'm only aware of one case being brought against someone i nthe UK recently, and that was a university student downloading unreleased films off of BitTorrent. The RIAA in America is causing a fuss at the moment, scanning P2P networks for people sharing mp3s and bringing court cases against individual users (871 last I looked, more planned) - however, this is America only at the moment. The BPI (uk equivalent) have said they will not do this yet, and consider it only to be a very last resort.

How do you find these things out anyway? A quick google search revealed the most relevant pages to be from the start of June about the Italians getting annoyed about it.

Be very carful when using Kazaa at the moment, it's fine for freeware stuff but when it comes to music and stuff be very carful as the police are monitoring Kazaa and then contacting your ISP to charge you.

I think they just mean somewhere really.

Might be able to find something on a p2p network if you can be bothered to sort through all the other dubious files. A quick kazaa search for quake 4 reveals nothing promising, for example a windows XP keygen appears, and a file called Quake 4 BETA at 40k.

But even so, p2p networks are the places things like this spread.
Just look at how fast the leaked version of UT2k3 spread.
