Last year was also the last time Iíd be with my friends during school time. You see, all of my friends went to the local village collage, whereas, I went to a place in Cambridge.
The thing is, I use the word "Friends" too widely.
Iíve been on this planet for 12 years. And in that time, Iíve only met one person that I can call a true friend. Out of all the people I left behind last year, heís the only one Iíve bothered to keep in contact with.
Why? Because heís been my friend since I was 1. Heís always been there for me, whenever I went through a rough patch, because we share the same interests and because we get on so damn well.
To me heís a brother. Heís part of my family.
He was being bullied a few years ago by a person who had suffered Meningitis and had lost an arm (An unlikely person for a bully you may think, but he could get away with it because the teachers were all soft on him. Iíll explain about that another time)
This person he had formerly thought of as a friend. It wasnít just him that bullied him; it was the other people who he had though were friends too.
You should have seen the bruises on his back where heíd been punched and kicked, they were horrible.
I stepped in and stopped it.
This incident just goes to show what people really can be like. They went from being his friends to being bullies in a matter of weeks. Him and me have never had an argument or a fall-out. Not once in the 11 years that weíve known each other.
The other people who I regarded as friends showed themselves for what they really were in the last year. They teased me for going to a "posh school" (Translation: Private school) and wouldnít let it go.
I expected that from a few of them, but certainly not all of them. And thatís what happened all of them did that. I just broke off all contact with them. If they couldnít accept me for what school I went to then how the hell were we supposed to get on?
All my "Friends" did that, except for Ben.
At the moment, Iím in my second year of secondary school and am loving it. Iíve acquired new friends. Friends that actually donít care what school I go to or what I do in my free time.
Theyíre good friends, but none of them are like Ben. No one ever will be like Ben. He is my best friend and probably always will be. Why am, I so confident in saying that? Weíve managed to keep in contact even though we go to different schools, even though he doesnít do any of the same sports as I do...
Why am I saying all this?
I have no idea. I suppose what Iím saying is that if youíve got a good friend stick with them. If they are a true friend they wonít care about anything that happens that may drive you apart. They wonít tease you over various aspects of yourself. Theyíll always be there.
Iím lucky to have found such a good friend so early on in my life. I really am lucky.

Shocking waste of a top bloke.
> A friends for life........
Not just for Christmas
Indeed, if they are fat, or you eat them slowly, they can last until easter!
