It'll be new year before we know it, and we can do it again then, but to-date, what do you think is the best game of 2001 is?

MGS2 Demo? Maybe the only reason to buy a PS2?!

Max Payne... a very popular blend of Payback's coolness with The Matrix's action.

Conker's Bad Fur Day? Sick, but funny... maybe only for Ninties?

Headhunter? Quite a game... i'll tell you now!

You decide... please don't forget to write why!

Personally my favourite would have to be Skies of Arcadia... The game was so absorbing, the music was fantastic, and the sense of adventure hasn't bean surpassed by any other game to-date! - In my opinion... ^_^

Skies of Arcadia 1 - 0 All the other games... ^_^

I am used to needing to push the button with different levels of force to get the desired effect, I would like to see it in the new version, I prefer it to having power bars, but that's just me.

Which version are you talking about? the PS2 verion of ISS? i heard that was one of the worst versions of the game ever?...no?

I have been playing ISS pro evo, from the psx every day for the past few months and i think it is very close to being perfect. None of this pressure sensitivity crap needs to be used.

I don't really like football games, isn't it more fun to play it yourself outside? Of course I don't like football either, so that could affect my judgement.

Speedball 3 is in production, that's good news, the reason Speedball was a good sport game was because it had violence and features. Football is just a bunch of guys kicking a ball around until time runs out or it ends up in a net. Of course there is more to it than that, tactics and such but I've never understood the attraction. Plus it seems a bit like religion, which I'm also not a fan of because it seems to be too often used as an excuse to fight even if it's not the real reason... Like Football there as well.

Sort of, but I play ISS on the PS2 all the time, and the analogue pressure sensitive shooting, passing etc. is brilliant and considering it is a year old makes it more impressive still, lets just hope the new version implements the pressure sensitivity too.

After playing pro evo on the psx, ISS on the N64 does seem rather pathetic. But i played ISS on the N64 for years before i had even heard of pro evo. And ISS was a great game, but after i had played pro evo on the psx and then went back to the N64 version, i knew the psx version was untouchable and i found the N64 version totally unplayable.

does this make sense?!

I dunno.... The interface on the PS2, when I played TIF 2002 and Fifa 2001, seemed so much clearer... a little more feasable than the crowded plethora of (alphanumeric)characters and colours that fronted me in ISS 98 and 2000 on the N64.

I prefer Fifa... but only because I can play it with my Brother (10) and the rest of the family...

I think ISS 98 on the 64 plays better than any psx footy game becasue of the N64 controller, but pro evo is the better game.

It's not been a great year for PC games, some of the highlights have included Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction and Baldur's Gate 2: Throne of Bhaal. Both expansion packs, not good news for new games then. Of course there was Max Payne, a very good game though not so well recieved by some due to it being too short and with only bullet time as a new feature. I didn't really think Max Payne was too short and Bullet Time was something that stayed fresh through the whole game. Max Payne's other big successes were the graphics, the combat system (not necessarily original but Bullet Time made it seem 100% new, and it sort of was if you exclude non bullet time combat) and the story. Apparently some people didn't like the story, but to each his own. Or her yes.

Anyway, Max Payne, game of the year? I just don't know if I could say that and be sure. Especially with many good games promised over the last three months of this year, since it's so far though they can't be counted. Black & White was released this year wasn't it? Well there you go then.

Game of the Year: Black & White.

Thanks....

Now all I need is a PS2.... I had an N64 because all I ever knew was Nintendo... Gamecube looks great, and I wouldn't mind it following in suit and taking that special place next to my TV, although I don't want to miss MGS2 and nothing plays a football game like Playstation... (Control Pad.... simple)
