For a work project, I need to know about sporting tournaments, seeing as I know zero about this stuff.
Football:
I know World Cup in 2002, but what about Euro or UEFA etc?
Are there tournaments every year?
Rugby:
Same as above, are there world competitions? Is it yearly etc?
Golf
Cricket
I basically need to know what competitions are run for each of these, the major ones. Are England in any of these?
I really, really dont know anything about sport.

The Ryder Cup (golf) is every "2" years. It's been cancelled this year due to the terrorist attacks.
Golf, know a bit about that.
4 Majors every year. US PGA, US Masters, the Open, US Open.

Um, know less about football, but..
World Cup - every 4 years, reigning champs France, next one held 2002 in Korea/Japan.
Euro Cup - every 4 years, next one 2004, reigning champs France
UEFA Cup - European championship. Every year.
Champions League - Made up of the champions and runners up of the European leagues. Reigning champs Bayern Munich, I think.

Rugby - 6 Nations - played every year between England, France, Italy, Ireland, Wales (GO WALES!) and Italy. Italy joined in 2000.
- Rugby World Cup - played every 4 years. NExt one will be in 2003. In 1999 was played in Wales.
- Tri-Nations - played between South Africa, Australia and New Zealand every year
- The Calcutta Cup - Between England and Scotland every year. Usually part of 6 Nations.
