They sent us this BT Home Hub thing, which is suppose to be pretty good. The problem was that before you even plug it into your computer you have to connect it to the phone line. But it wasnt recognising a broadband connection. Naturally they kept on assuming I was an idiot and wasnt setting it up properly. Lots of "wait 24 hours while they do stuff to the line". Then when they ran out of ideas they finally got someone to look at the exchange this morning and
bingo the problem was solved. Finally!I think we've been upgranded from 2MB to 8MB connection, I'll just do some tests.

4496 kb/s download
381 kb/s upload
Is this any good? I see the upload is still sucky, hopefully I'll be able to download some things a lot faster now.
So has much happened? I see there have been a few changes on the site. We have 3 new GC mods too, well done pb, Smedlos and tnc.
And it takes me just over an hour for 1 Lost episode.
I think we're on a 2Mb line... Though I'm not very sure.

kb/s is correct. Capitalisation is important, you're talking about KB/s.

An 8mbps connection has a theoretical maximum of.. uhh... 8192 kpbs which works out at being ~1024 kb/s, so when you download things from fast servers or a fast torrent (try starting an OpenOffice torrent and leaving it 20 minutes) you should be seeing it getting close to transferring at a megabyte per second.
I would recommend testing the box in the test socket though, you need to undo the 2 screws and carefully pull the bottom part of the socket off, then plug the Home Hub directly in to the little test socket on the right. Check the speed again, as this will then tell you if your internal phone wiring is slowing your internet down by much. Mine does, crappy builders don't know how to wire phone cable in.
Also, if you're going to use wireless, you'll want to change a setting that will increase the signal strength. I'll try and find the details...

*Put's on dark sunglasses, black suit, black tie and white shirt and looks menacingly at everyone*
:D
If you pop on over to the "other side" you'll see a few developments on the meet.
