However, diving is getting more and more common all the time. And something has to be done to stop it increasing even more.
What can you think of to stop diving?
I have come up with a few ideas. The first, and most likely to be implemented, is the use of video replays. That would let the refs view incidents from several perspectives and let them see the incident again and in slow motion. The second is for awarded penalties to be checked after the match by an un-attached body. If the penalty was a penalty, fine no action would be awarded. But if it was a dive, then the player who dived would be given a post match yellow card. If the penalty was given and the resulting goal (if they manage to score that is) was a match winner, then the the diver would be given a post-match red card.
Yes it is drastic. But something has to be done to stop the increasingly wide spread problem of cheating. For some other things players get punished after the match. Cheating ruins good games and can prevent the better team from winning. It can also cause tension between teams. Leicester and Derby were almost fighting because of Robbie Savage's dive. It could have led to several players from both sides being disciplined. All because one player cheated.
It might be to crude a method. But I do think that players would be less inclined to dive if they faced a yellow or red card after the match, after having the incident reviewed on video.
Can anyone else come up with a better idea? What do you think about post match booking?
