OK, I thought this might be a good idea:

Holding a logo competition!

Your task is this:

An up and coming mail order games company named Special Direct (geddit?) have asked you to design a logo for their website. Special Direct specialise in console games shipping, always next working day. Your logo must transmit this point in a subtle way. The logo must:

ï Be on a white background
ï Be compressed as a GIF
ï Be no more than 300 x 200
ï Contain the words "Special" and "Direct" somewhere on it

Bear in mind that the company website will be designed in a minimalist style. The logo does not have to be web-safe.

Marks will be awarded for:

ï Style (x/10)
ï Clarity (x/5)
ï Cleanliness (x/5)

ï Overall: out of 20

There will be no certain prize for this competition, but if I win FAD any time soon, I will certainly give it away to the winner. If SR want to offer a prize, they can if they want to.

I'll be judging, so all bribes sent to me. Good luck!

I'll judge the best one from Reaper and Tyla, as those appear to be the best entries:

Reaper[oV]: Top right logo: http://www.eastment.com/ov/sr/logos.htm

I liked this logo. It was one of the very few logos that actually met one of the most important requirements, minimalistic. It's simple and gets the message across, which is what it's supposed to do.

ï Style: 9/10
ï Clarity: 5/5
ï Cleanliness: 4/5

Overall: 18/20

Tyla: Bottom left logo: http://www.tyla.org.uk/SDLogos.htm

This was also very nice, and I liked the colours. However, it loses lots of pints in the clarity category for totally failing to mention mail order GAMES!

ï Style: 8/10
ï Clarity: 2/5
ï Cleanliness: 5/5

Overall: 15/20

SO THE WINNER IS: REAPER[OV]!

Well done to Phil, you now have a free DVD of your choice. Also well done to everyone else that entered. The standard was surprisingly high. Second place was Tyla, runners up were InsomniaoV (Luke) and Whooo Style (Andi).

Yes, Rob decided to post a zip of all my fonts on his site..

The Special Direct text is in Abaddon, with the wording underneath in Colony Wars. Why do I get the feeling there will be a sudden flurry of logos using these fonts now..

I don't know, but you can download them at www.spiderdesign.f2s.com/fonts.ext

You need to change the extension to .zip when you get it.

The closing date is this Saturday and the winner will recieve a free DVD, so get designing!
