The N64 pad had its faults - you couldn't get to the D-pad or left shoulder without taking your hand off the stick, for instance - but it still stands as the best console ever created for any console yet seen.
I was at The Nintendo Show and having felt the GameCube pad first-hand, and having played with it, I can assure you that it's rectified pretty much every fault the N64 pad had (not that there were many). The only thing that worries me about it is the Z-button, which is slightly too knobbly and stiff for my liking.
But then, the rest of the pad feels so natural anyway - you don't have to look down at all, not even if it's the first time you've picked it up. When was the last time that happened?
I hope they release the console over here with slightly longer prongs on the pad, mind you; it is a bit small-ish. Designed for Japanese hands, see? In any case, it's a great pad and the innovation presented by the Wavebird feature can only make it better. Look forward to using it daily.

Nintendo always seem to make them best controllers, we'll se if the GameCube controller is as good.

The best pad ever was the one for the Nes, it was small, light, only had 4 buttons plus the D-pad and was very simple to use.
