I'm sure we all know what digitiser are like, don't we?

They're not right in simple terms, check page 480 (C4) for a more in depth profile :-P

There's sommin in my nature that can't stand people dissing the PS2 (without good reason) Ok some people like it, some hate it but dissing is a completly different issue.
It has it's faults no doubt about it and Sony could have so easily made a better job out of it but even so, it has some serious power waiting inside that black box and if used properly could be really something special (MGS2) :-P

Digitiser diss not only the PS2 but EVERYTHING to ever appear on it including the non exclusives.

For instance SSX tricky on the PS2 will be absolute dog poop and yet the gamecube and Xbox versions are somehow good, hmmmmmmm

Tell us what you think of em and please don't hold back :-P

I'm bringing em down :-D

Yeah. Nintendo are ripping off everyone with the GBA, partly because most cdon't care.

I reckon that in a years time there will be drop in price for its games and the GBA itself.

Sure, Nintendo aren't being very competitive in prices but there's no competition to trounce it so it'll get away with it.

That's another reason why I hope that NO ONE dominates the console market the way Nintendo dominates the handheld market.

I suppose :-D

They're now on about GBA games being so expensive, £35.99 for a budget free snes port, sure it's a good game but they're a rip off (says digi)

they'd sell more if they were cheaper and I agree :-)

I don't remember Digi slating Red Faction (they said it was great a several times).

Perhaps the Fat Sow did (the Fat Sow offers and independant opinion and is designed to wind everyone up!)

They probably said that considering it was the most original PS2, that wasn't saying so much for the system or something like that.

Digitiser nearly always end up right but are very cynical and vocal about their opinions.

They've produced hundreds of examples where they argued against EVERYONE and a year later could say "Told You So!"

The point should be made that although the PS2 is, as you say, an underused machine, it is NOT easy to program for. It is the console most hated by programmers; read anything from Edge to MCV and you'll see at least one article where a developer says "...we worked around this by..." - you'll never hear that about the GameCube. Nintendo realised that the N64 was a troublesome machine so they've made it programming heaven. It's ironic that the PS2 is at the same time the most difficult console available.

With regards to the 'head' demo, the games will not look like that. If you are just showing a head then the console can pump out all of its power to that one image; you cannot put that kind of detail on every person in an entire game. Microsoft used the same kind of deception with the X-Box demos: in fact, the only really useful demos came from Nintendo, who showed in-game footage as opposed to some technical stuff which is no use to anyone trying to get an idea of what the actual GAMES will look like. Don't fall for their tricks.

Yeah I know what you are talking about. I saw it on the video of E3 2000. That was wicked. You could see every single wrinkle on his face

I did read it :-D

Sony have mucked up alot of things with the PS2 but what remains is a powerfull underused machine. I saw this demo of a virtual person's face, i think it's off the Japanese demo disc and WOW it was soooooooo realistic, except for the incredibly WHITE teeth i would have mistook it for a real person.

Developers just aren't using it's full potential and Sony are the ones suffering, Programming for the PS2 isn't hard, I mean you can woop up anything but it'll have jagged edges and flicker to high heaven, To get rid of these and make the game how you want it takes a bit more work and they still haven't mastered it. Summoner is supposed to be the first perfect game out even though the graphics aren't spectatular.
so come to think of it It's Sony's fault for not making it developer friendly :'(

coming back to the point i still don't like digitiser, They update daily and are a good source of info but i just hate em. They said red faction was rubbish due to it's lack of originality, mmmmm miners on mars rebelling, destructible arenas mmm, we hear that all the time don't we.

I just don't like em :-D

I'm going to say this for the last time.

Digitiser aren't biased or stupid. Just seriously brutally honest.

Stuart Campells rant today on 481 was a little exadurated but dwelve deeper and you see where he's coming from.

He started off with how Sony promised to revolutionise gaming with an emotion engine.

The result?

Most launch games were no better than, many inferior to current DC titles at that time.
Some of its best titles now like Crazy Taxi and Resident Evil Veronica are simple conversion of DC games with hardly any improvements or enhancements at all.

Take his point about the pad ports.

How hard would it have been to make it with a multitap in built.
Goldeneye and Mario Kart's multiplayer modes gave the N64 that special element that stopped it being crushed under the PSOne's incredible popularity.

We all know that some games like Red Faction had revolutionary ideas, but being made by THQ as a PC conversion, it could just as easily been released on the Xbox, Gamecube or Dreamcast - with a lot less hassle for the devellopers.
The same goes with many other games of its type.

Despite his points making sense and having a large element of truth, there were large and brutal exadurations.

The PS2 isn't all that bad. It's a decent machine and a worthwhile buy if you have the money for it.

They recognise its good games and give them fair marks.
SSX got a whopping 5/5 - the only "must have" game at launch.
SSX Tricky?
Probably not different enough from the original to excite them for a PS2 release (i.e. not worth another 40 quid), but for other machines which didn't have the prequel, it's a neat snowboarding game.

Everyone knows that the Dreamcast was a brilliant machine which had everything right apart from the marketing (so perfect from a gamers point of view) but it got blown for the more "mainstream" look.

Stuart Campell pointed out that the Gamecube is the next gen. equivilant.

Take a look at how easily revolutionary games have been produced for the Gamecube within a year of its specs being finalised.

Yet, years after the PS2's launch and the very top companies are struggling to put slightly innoative ideas into its games.

You start to see why Digitiser are desperate that the Gamecube doesn't fall the same way the Dreamcast did.

You might think that they don't need to slate Sony's every action and you might be right.
They know that its a reasonable system, as we all do.

But they think that the REAL advancements in gaming are elsewhere...

And in that respect I agree with them.

They're not biased.

If Nintendo mess up, you'll hear about it.
