A: Max Payne!
now I'm sure that, since you're all talking about it, it's no news that eveyone's talking about it for two reasons:
1. It's SO DAMN GOOD!
2. It's SO DAMN SHORT!
Not everyone will agree with the first point, but it ain't my fault... I'm just the messenger. Fact is, and I defy ANYONE to disgree with this, it is a fantastic game and deserves the highest praise, but should it have been longer? The short answer is yes. The long answer is :"it's a matter for much discussion." should they have tried to knock out a few poor levels to bulk it up a bit? I thought the docklands levels that made up the most of chapter 2 felt a bit like that, but since they fitted seamlessly with the plot and were simply outstanding levels, it didn't bother me in the slightest. But how long does a game have to be to be enjoyable? Max Payne was too short, but brimming with quality in every conceivable manner. And some inconceivable manners. Fallout was also too short, but fallout 2 rectified that nicely. I think that half life went on a little too long, it got slightly repetitive towards the end, and Baldur's Gate 2, requiring around 600 hours of playing time, is beyond a joke. Should games be kept short but sweet? or do they need bulk? Games with a brilliant plot like max payne, system shock 2 or Deus Ex have depth in spades but need to drag it out some in order to retain interest. Deus Ex did that beautifully, and Max Payne had a dig, but being so short didn't really have time to spin it out properly. Oh well, time to wait for Fallout 3, Deus Ex 2 and Max Payne 2.
Should this post have been kept short but sweet? How long does a forum post have to be to be enjoyable? Have I done a half-life and rambled on unneccesarily. Let me know!
What's Max Payne? and who's talking about it?
