You should have received a message via the Dashboard about maintenance works ready for the updated dashboard http://www.xbox.com/live/
Yeah, I should've made a note of 'em to avoid future swearing.
Oh yeah, I got a message about it and promptly forgot the dates.

They are upgrading the servers - Said on some news site somewhere.
