You know the way various soapstars, usually from Eastenders, are being 'poached' by rival TV companies, such as ITV signing up the guy that used to play Grant Mitchell. Well, what if the actor, had to still play the same character in a different soap on another channel.
We'll stick with Grant Mitchell for a mo, ITV signed him up, so the BBC have to write him out in such a way that he can join an ITV soap, say he moves to Manchester. Next week, who should walk into that pub on Coronation Street? Why it's Grant Mitchell, trying to make a new life for himself.
You could also have international soap star transfers. Maybe Dot Cotton could join the Home and Away cast, and be seen puffing away in the Bayside Diner, or walking along the beach, sun blazing down, still wearing her trademark raincoat. Maybe it would be a swap deal, with Alf Roberts going the other way, buying up a shop on Albert Square, calling the kids "Young hoons" and the others "Flaming Gallahs".
Of course, there would be good moves, and bad. Maybe someone will rise through the soaps, starting off with lowly beginnigs in Family Affair, rise up to Brookside, transfer to Australia to Neighbours, only to make a record transfer fee move back to Emmerdale. Then you could get the soap stars in decline - Kevin Webster, you are no longer liked here in Coronation Street, pack your bags, you've got a job in the Crossroads Hotel!
You could even go a bit cross-genre too, if you wanted. Maybe Holby City would sign Mark Fowler, as the HIV virus he's had finally starts to get the better of him.
The Cafe is on fire? Call in London's Burning.
Of course, this leaves the door wide open for one time Days of Our Lives favourite, Wings Hauser, to make a big money move to UK shores.
Hauser in Hollyoaks anyone?
