Ok so we all play games, most of us play quite a lot but the cost of the games add up. When we can we buy new games from special reserve. But it's not a cheap interest and if you don't earn a lot of money it can be difficult saving to get all the games you want.

So what could be a way around this.

Well the obvious one is to earn money either by getting a job of some kind or by helping others, i.e washing cars or cutting grass and gardening. But these can be quite boring and most of us would rather stay at home and play a game and just save our pocket money to buy new games when we can.

So what else?

Well one thing I would like to see in the future is more attention to bedroom programmers (I'm not one but there are lots) If the developer concentrated for a little on making it easier to program your own games on the console then maybe more would do it.

Imagine being able to make a game that stands out and plays well and also looks pretty good too. Also this game would be unique and only you would have a copy, you could also let your friends have to coding so they could play it too. So what could developers do to help?
Think of HTML for web pages, nowadays you can get programs that design your page for you so very little HTML knowledge is required, early on all pages were created with only HTML no fancy programs did all the hard work. So could the same happen with games? Could we see programs that are simple to use but allow you to make very impressive games?

Many of you may well be planning a career in the games industry a few maybe with games development, this could help you along the way, give you a little experience before you do it for real. But it also would allow you to create games that are a little similar to those out on the market, you wouldn't have to buy a lot of games as you could make your own.
It obviously wouldn't happen for quite some time (maybe the next consoles that are released will allow something similar) but If and when something like this does happen we may well see more games being created in bedrooms that are nearly as impressive as some of the officially released games. It would also give you a great feeling of satisfaction to know that this was something you created, it may also make your friends envy you slightly (either that or they will chant names like nerd and geek at you, but that's because none of them are clever enough to do it themselves).

Most developers these day have to go to university or college and learn all about how games are created and all the major steps to creating good games. Would developers be able to created such a program which helped teach this easily? Also how much would such a piece of kit cost. The only console I know which has done anything similar is the PS2, but creating games on it isn't that easy and most can't be bothered wasting time trying. Also they released a Linux kit to help those really interested in developing to have a go. Was quite expensive for the kit but in many cases probably worth it. Shame it wasn't released over here.

Could this be a thing to look out for in the future? More games being created by one or a small group of people, more help given to individual developers and bedroom programmers? Could be beneficial to developers to create easier options for this on their consoles.

So what are your views, would you like to create your own games? Would you like it to be a lot easier to do so? Or are you not bothered about it in the slightest?

Buy Darkbasic for your PC. You'll be writing quality 3d games in no time - and you'll learn how to run simple code. SR sell it.
The PS2 Hard Drive will allow for software development kits to appear.
Did any one have RPG Maker for the PS??
It looked quite good - enabling you to put together your own RPG from map templates etc. As well as add your own text.
There was even a set RPG as an example of what could be done, which was good in itself!

A black playstation called net yaroze enabled people to create games on their PC and download them to the console, each month OPSM gave a full game on the CD for normal playstations but not many people were interested :-)

The PS2 has YAbasic which allows simple games to be made easily but the standard is too high for many people to care ;-)

I would definently be interested in creating my own games, time and time again iv'e wondered what would it be like if there was a games where you could..........

It would be nicer if it was a little easier to get into, time to start looking for the next generation consoles after these bunch where it may be possible to start developing if indeed it happens at all.
