LMAO!!! I can just imagine you soiling yourself while your mate is out of the room and you're trying to figure out how to tell him that you broke his Dreamcast.

Well yes, but compared to how cheap it is to mass produce CDs, cartridges would be very expensive to produce. It's a shame that we'll probably never see another cartridge based console ever again... Cartridges are much more wholesome than flimsy CDs, but of course CDs/DVDs have their advantages like being able to hold much more data, sound quality etc.

If I recall correctly, Nintendo and Sega had a habit in making cost effective catridge systems; it was the public that decided that SOny's CD based system should triumph.

My first Xbox was a noisy beast - loud fan and grinding disc drive... eventually I realized it was knackered, so I took it back and got another one.

My second Xbox is a quiet beast - just sits in the corner purring like a black cat.

Temperamental disc-based machines... the sooner someone invents a cost effective cartridge system the better.

I know what you mean, I set up my Dreamcast for the first time in a while a couple of weeks ago, I couldn't belive the noise from it!

But to be honest, with the X-Box the noise just kind of fades from my attention when I'm playing the games.

A good blow with a hammer works just aswell... Take the hammer and hit yourself in the head wiht it and you're dead... no more loud noises!

A lot depends where you place your console for use, different places and surfaces generate more/less noise.

If they're getting noisier, it's most probably the build up of dust. Use some compressed air to blow it away.
