Ok lets see how many people over 3 don't know what Pokemon is??? What is it a task to hard to comprehend? Why well, bed spreads, TV shows, adverts, promotions, figures, games, cards, lampshades, CD's, Films, watches, sticker albums, Teddy bears you name it they made a Pokemon thing after it. Also Mario is the world’s most famous plumber? Why? Surely it couldn't involve marketing? That's right this is evidence of Nintendo's ability to advertise.
Nintendo (well other people under Nintendo’s instruction) also like making movies and , Pokemon 1,2,3,4, Mario Brothers and of course who will want to miss the Perfect Dark series and movie due in 2002. It is all a clever ploy to hype up certain games, which in turn sells the console.
Before Turbonutter jumps on his high horse this doesn't mean Sony are not as good as the big N at advertising in fact Sony's method seems to be more effective! They can but in a very different way to Nintendo. Football shirts, posters, TV shows and many more all have Sony or Playstation splashed across it.
Now though Nintendo has seen this more effective method and although they have taken their time with the Gamecube campaign they have now started. The GBA's campaign particularly in America was very effective and it featured good-looking women touring the country with GBA's strapped to them so people can play. So what is the American campaign going to be like for the Gamecube?
The $75 million launch campaign features Ad's before major movies including Harry Potter and the Lord of the Flies. Commercials range from ones shown during children’s cartoons to MTV and Prime Time shows, production team includes the director of photography from Se7en and one commercial features 500 cast members. Nintendo have joined up with old friends Dr. Pepper (the worlds greatest Drink advertising the world's greatest games machine) and will include an instant-win game with GameCube prizes and appearances on most packaging and Dr. Pepper will also be doing some TV ad's (what's the worse that can happen?).
Men’s magazines, children’s magazines etc... Will feature more than 95 full-page print ads will appear in more than 50 publications. Nintendo’s cube clubs don't know what the cube clubs are? They are clubs found in 12 American cities where Nintendo will change lofts and old office buildings into odd interactive venues DJ's spinning music, weird lighting and around 32 Gamecube’s with Panasonic TV's to play!!!
Through magazines and other methods 3 million CD ROMs will be given to consumers and 10,000 playable Gamecube demos will be avalible at many retailers. Phew there we go it looks to me as if throughout the next few months America will be flooded with Gamecube this and Gamecube that.
Can Nintendo advertise now?
NO? If that is what you think explain why and let the arguing commence!!!!
Dringo.
You'll only find the promotions there.
As for here in Europe, It is highly likely we'll hear little.
As Nintendo Europe are useless.
BTW, I'm looking forward to my PS2 for £199, with copies of FFX and MGS2. But that's all im looking forward to on PS2 though.
: (
Everyone knew about the PS2 months and months before it's release. The PS2 was launched in November, and people were buzzing in February, especially when word got round school that I had already placed my pre-order. So, if Nintendo have spent all this money, how come when I asked my friend James (who owns a Saturn, PS1, N64, Dreamcast, and 2 PS2s (one at home, one in his car)) if he's going to get a GameCube, he just looked back at me blankely. For God's sake, the thing's already been launched in Japan!
Goldeneye was the N64's best advertisement.
It sold the machine to me.
Pokemon got people hooked on the Gameboy and many bought an N64 to see their monsters in glorious 3D aka Pokemon Stadium.
The release of Pokemon Stadium saw N64 sales go through the roof in America.
The Playstation also got its reputation by being a good machine. When it first raeched its popularity, Tombraider, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid and Resident Evil games were new and original (before the sequels age).
TV advertising campaigns work quite well, but not as well as playing it at a friends house.
You noticed how the the new Gamecube game cases look much more grown up? just seen the covers for rogue leader and wave race, and they both look quality.
