Can anyone tell me (as been told to me) if it is possible for a cookie to be blamed for giving or obtaining an e-mail address from a personal computer.
Have been receiving spam to this address, which is only known to family members, my system is on medium security, and I have a Zone alarm firewall, have checked the mall-net web site and cannot see the answer to this problem.

The mail is sent from different addresses but always has the same return path [email protected].

and if not does anyone have any thoughts?

thanks

Do the E-mails have the same Subject each time??

Also, is the TO Address just yours, or a whole list, someone you don't know, or even blank???

Thanks Turbonutter, that is what I thought, another could of been a trojan in my computer or something, but have ruled all this out.

Cjh ......yep that's what I suspect the email address is my ISP also, they of course have denied giving out e-mail addresses, but I have just noticed they are running ...guess what ?..........a holiday competition ...Hummm,
have sent an e-mail of complaint to all addresses in the header, thing is as the send from e-mail address is false its cannot be blocked with this account.

Yep there is a lot to be said for Hotmail, think I will use them for a private address aswell, thanks guys

Who's your ISP..... it's possible that they may have sold there Users E-mail Address list to make some £££.

Cookies have nothing to do with E-mail. Ignore them.

Chances are, you've sent an E-mail to someone from that address, who's got a virus or something that has forwarded your E-mail address on. You can't do anything about it, so just block the address [email protected]

Rest assured, cookies have nothing to do with it.

thanks cjh for that, what is baffeling about this is, the e-mail address in Question has never been used for membership, or given to any company or web site, just my family members.

I have this address on POP 3, do you know if a cookie can retrieve info from Outlook Express or my hard drive.

I do have other free e-mail accounts, but not on pop3, these are not affected.

Have gone through the cookies in windows, but its impossible to locate the offending one, although as they say the horse has already bolted :)

Unfortunatly this kind of thing is very commin on the Internet, concerning junk mail. I'm not sure how, but your E-mail address is never really 100% safe from these types of mails. It's unluckly from a cookie though, as only the Web Site which set a cokkie can access it, unless it was this web site that released your E-mail Address. Some companies sell there mail list to advetisers, etc.
