Anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering these are the wise words of George Lucas’s Yoda but it has some meaning in today’s life (well mine anyway). In a matter of minutes I felt Anger, hate and now I am defiantly suffering but what am I doing? Am I wandering the streets aimlessly walking in an endless void that is the darkness (well I am but we’ll say no more), am I hiding in my room? No in fact I’m writing the fruits of which you are reading at this moment.

Yet before Edgy bursts in claiming this isn’t prime I realize that I am not just writing because I want to do something, I am writing because it is the one thing I am good at. So what about games developers? Do they design games when their mentality is on the brink of collapse or when their emotions are at an all time high? What goes through the mind of a games designer when they design a game, what went through the mind of Shigsy when he created the first platform game? What was his mental state at the time?

People often insist that Shigsy must be mad, a bit of a weirdo yet he is a very nice person indeed yet what is his secret what makes the mind of a genius? When a game of utter magic and pure brilliance is created is the designer swallowing in the pits of depression or is he the happiest person alive? We all played and loved Zelda (well most) could you make a game like that, could you create relationships between characters combined with intense action? It isn’t just the ability of writing an involving story the look, the thoughts of the gamers, individuals everything has to be taken into an account.

So painters paint, writers write and games designers design games but what makes them do this? What are these people like? Do we actually care? No! Lets play the fruits of their artistic demonstrations and ask no more of them.

I get all my ideas in cloud cuckoo land.

It's pretty simple to get a good idea.
You wait for inspiration (e.g. a bouncy ball), think of a game to suit it.
Think of controls, gameplay, objective, style.

Keep adding bits to your big idea, imagining how it'll play, tweak it in everyway possible.

By the time you become a designer, you'll have a master project ready!
