My old Acer Veriton FP2 bit the dust last week after 3 years of loyal service. It was a P3 800MHz and only had 2MB onboard graphics, so wasn't much use for online gaming. This time around, I've decided to get something a little more powerful, so went for a Dell Dimension 8300 series, P4 2.4GHz, with 512MB RAM and a 128MB ATI Radeon 9800 graphics card (not the PRO card, just the base one which I figure should be more than enough).

I ordered a few extra bells and whistles with it, so £1,103.84 vanished from the credit card and I'm sitting here waiting for it to be delivered. (Couple of weeks from now, I guess).

My biggest worry? I've never used Windows XP before, I was always raving on about Win2kPro being the best O/S since sliced bread. Is it easy to get along with?

And...it has arrived! 9:30 this morning 4 boxes, 53kg. One cup of coffee and 20 minutes fiddling with wires and it's up and running :)

*Starts figuring out how to delete the AOL and Tiscali offers from his desktop...*

I'm on XP Home, I found it easy to get rid of WM. My sister's on XP pro (yes, guess why), and that keeps coming back, but that's MS for you.

I think I've done that before... I gave it a try anyway, hopefully it's gone.

You boot into DOS mode, type format C:
Then reboot, and put in a linux boot disc.
