Now after reading the latest topic, which I'm hoping was part of the virtual newbie competition. I thought to myself about the endings of films and how they totally adjust the way in which we viewed it.

For example 'The Usual Suspects', what would you have thought about that film if the ending wasn't so damn memorable, so great, so fantastically brilliant that no film has ever even come close to it, well in my opinion.

The film had become one of the all time greats and to tell you the truth I didn't find the actual film all that good, until the ending anyway that is. I almost lost intrest at certain moments and was tempted to turn the film off. But fate took part and I caried on viewing until the final scene which just left me shaken. The film was utterly amazing and all because of those final 10 minutes.

Although this was the case for this film the same doesn't go for all of them. Arlington Road has to be one of the best thrilers of this time and after the hour mark we are no longer watching a film, we are no longer viewing a movie, we become part of the movie. It is just so tense and unforgetable and the thing which made this movie all that different from the rest and all that more memorable was of course the ending.

Now as not everyone has seen this film and some of you have proberlly not even heard of it, but I can't find words to write about it. As soon as the credits role there is a small smile which has been destroyed by your mouth left wide open and unable to close for another hour.

Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Ransom, Shawshank Redemption and many others have all done the same. With all of the above the whole film was exceptionally brilliant, but it was the ending that finished it off on such a high.

Now like with a book, a film needs the ending just as a book needs the first page. As my great english teacher once taught me, 'All you need to get someone intrested in your book is the first page, the rest is already wrote for you'. Why would you buy a film if it left such a negative impression on you? The simple truth is you wouldn't and as the ending is the last thing you will see, it has to be memorable, exciting, tense, emotionally, all really depending on what type of film it was.

Now if you have any other opinions about this then please feel free to mention them in the topic. But thanks for reading this and valid comments would be appreciated.

First of all I forgot to mention Fight Club and even though I didn't find the film all that memorable I did love the ending even though it didn't make perfect sense how a person can pull themself along the floor by their hair.

Memento was something that annoyed me as I watched the first hour and then had to leave to come back home so I missed the ending. As my local video shop will never get it in stock I must know the ending so tell me. It has led me to sleepless nights for the past month. :-)

Sadly I havn't watched The Usual Suspects all the way through yet as I got bored of it after 5mins and went into my room to play my N64, but the best examples of these types of films are 6th Sense and Fight Club, i've heard Unbreakable has a completly unexpected twist at the end but I havn't seen that either yet.

Anyway, these films are great! they're original and usually have a good plot and storyline, they keep you watching, a bit of blood and gore and maybe a pycho or two.
I like fight club purely because of the soap, it's a new idea, I like them, so it gets my vote!

Successful room this. I didn't like you said just when you thought Keaton was the one then your fooled and the film becomes just all that much better. Arlington Road was possibly better though and was just great the whole way through. An unmissable film that SR doesn't offer, what a shame.
