Although I completely intend to purchase the game (by then for the third time) but I was a little apprehensive. The Graphics are the main upgrade and of course I’m not a graphics person in fact if it played the same as the Gameboy Colour version I wouldn’t see the Gamecube version as much better. Until I saw the shots and then I realized what was so special and why graphics are important to Resident Evil. Horror, the look adds to the atmosphere something that the greatest Horror makers in the world (closely followed by Silicon knights) are constantly trying to improve.
So then what is so special about the GC version? Well Resident Evil was a fun and at times scary games but the look of the mansion wasn’t all that authentic sure it was a bit spooky but perhaps if there was more detail it would be better and I now ask you to go to IGN and look at their comparisons they give between the Gamecube version and the Playstation versions. It may be just a picture but I felt I might actually be scared I mean really scared whilst playing Resident Evil. Lets take the main hall for a moment I once thought it was very good on the PC and Playstation but now look!!!! New Gothic look, darker, higher roofs and look at the chandelier utter magic!
Now lets talk about other graphical effect Capcom use rather than the darker more gothic look, lighting! The moon shines through a window, casting shadows upon the surrounding areas. It’s pitch black rooms where you can here the movement of Zombies yet can’t see them. All of a sudden a lightening strikes outside and the room illuminates for a second and you can see a room filled with Zombies before going black again!
There is Gameplay improvements mind new sub quests, more ways to kill such as stabbing knife into the side of a Zombies head and now Zombies can get through doors, all add to a slightly new feel to the game yet for a change I must insist the increase and improvement in graphics will make this game much better. The light colours, which appeared in the original, are gone now the mansion looks REAL! I mean really REAL! The mansion now has more detail, wallpaper and with the odd pattern on the stairs the new look chandeliers all of this makes the mansion now feel and look like a real, scary looking, deserted mansion and with this the idea that your alone in this frightening HUGE house filled with hidden monsters could indeed drive yourself insane muttering such things as it’s only a game, it’s only a game.
It isn’t just Capcom’s Resident Evil games that is doing this Nintendo’s very own (or Silicon knight’s to be more precise) and Resident Evil’s biggest rival Eternal Darkness. This game also features lightening strikes, shadows and the elusive insanity meter. It has 60 hours worth of gameplay with hundreds of years of history to play through. Resident Evil may have started these games but Eternal Darkness is set to revolutionize it. Will Resident Evil keep its title of the greatest Horror game of all time? Or will Silicon Knights and their stunning title topple the giant series. Whatever it may be the graphics of the individual titles will have a big impact on which will be the best. All I can say is thankfully this is a civil war, which Nintendo fans can’t lose.
Here’s to the Future
Dringo
Resident Evil will come out 6 months later.
They won't compete. People will finish ED and move onto RE.

This is Dringo and Barry appeared at the end of Resident Evil 3 remmember and Leon hired that private investiagot whom appeared in Survivor. Oh erm is the GBC one a stand alone title then???? I hope so :)

By the way Resident Evil for the PC has recently been re-released and the GBC version has Leon and Barry in, haven't seen them 2 for a while :)

Still, they should redeem themselves with DMC.
Albert Weskar appears more in CVX oh and the GC version is supposed to be heavily updated.
Oh look its that damn elusive Notable and oh hes gone.
There are now eight games on that list, and six of them are Resident Evil! :-)
I just wish that Capcom had put more effort into the PS2 conversion of Code Veronica to make it look that good, instead of just porting the Dreamcast version straight over with some extra cutscenes.
