I have just read a most amusing topic: The PSone is dead. Apparantly. According to the writer, the graphics aren't good enough compared to the PS2. Very true I say, but does that makes the games worse?

A good game is like a good book or film- it will stand the test of time. I will read George Orwell's 1984 time and time again, and I will continue my love of Good Will Hunting. Neither of these can compete with the latest action packed blockbusters, but neither is getting any worse. In fact, some get better.

The same is true of computer games. I still go back to SNES Mario Cart- one of the finest games ever. Yet the graphics are dire by today's standards! Aweful in fact! Going back further, Manic Miner has attrocious graphics for today. The gameplay was very linear too... but it is fun!

So, what games from the PSone era do you think will endure the test of time?

Remember, there is a HUGE difference between a great game, and a classic one. Both Gran Turismo and Zelda are great games... but only Zelda will be replayed again and again, while GT will be upgraded. Even when a new Zelda game comes out, the old SNES ones will remain popular. That is being classic.

No doubt that many of the games that have been mentioned are great... but can you really see yourself playing them in the future? With more games, the better version is just around the corner

Having an enhanced PSone coming with your console is fantastic but when you compare the differences between PS1 games to PS2 theres a clear winner.

I don't think anyone kept up with the amount of truly excellent games on the PSone and I've yet to get all I'm after, but I'm getting there :)

I kept a large number of my PS1 games, including GT1 and GT2. I have some cars in both that handle like a dream, and those cars aren't available in GT3... and I still like to drive them.

I have to admit that I haven't bought a PS1 game since getting my PS2 on launch day - but I will most certainly be buying Syphon Filter 3.

Graphics do help, but they aren't everything!

Can you honestly say you can go back to playing Gran Turismo 1 & 2 on the PS after seeing the hi-res beauty of Gran Turismo 3 on the PS2.
Call me a graphics freak - but I couldn't.

For me every game has a certain life-span - when it's up, it's dead. This is the main reason why I'm not intersted in the GBA: playing Mario Advance is for me just like warming a corpse.

It's backward compatibilty is one of it's best features.
