So if it comes down to comparing the technical merits and graphics of a screenshot, I will look at various aspects of the graphics, the abilities of the console and more importantly the developer to decide whether or not I am interested in the game, or the console. I have huge expectations of various games on the PS2 based on the screenshots, then once the game comes out, I take a look at reviews etc. to see how the games actually play, that is when I feel gameplay matters, when you are sitting with a console and game in front of you, and you are playing. If the game has good gameplay, then you will be entertained, but the gameplay of any game is a matter of someone's own opinion, and whether they like it or not is entirely up to the individual. If we all liked the same, then there would be a much narrower variety of games on the market.
But there isn't much arguement to be had about the technical aspects of a game's graphics, they are either good or bad, and as I have pointed out, Starfox Adventures has overall, fairly poor graphics, if you sit down and look at what is being done, the poor lighting, animation and models are a brilliant example. To date, the only game on the system which has even remotly impressed me is Resident Evil, but I amn't a fan of Resident Evil games, so once the games come to be released, I don't buy them, because *I* don't like them.
Thats all that matters, whether or not *YOU* like the game, when it comes to release day.
Meka... your a Ninty, you shouold be more bias! Take them out with your fancy knowledge, and experience!
You can't sit on the fence, son! If you harbour Sony, you will be bought to justice. :D
Look at DK64 as an example. Fantastic game in my opinion, huge levels, you could search for hours to try to find all of one characters banana's with no real guidance at all. Fantastic, I thought. Others found it too open - they wanted to be told what to do. They found the fact that you had to do each level with the 5 different characters repetitive, as they were covering the same ground. I found it to be a work of genius, with certain areas only accesible to certain characters, but the level still had a huge, unrestricted, feel to it.
Personal opinion is always something that people will differ on, and we argue about it, if we all accepted that we liked different things the forums would be all very nice, but possibly a little dull!
Although, just because you play the games you want to play this doesn't stop there being a 'grade' you can give a game, for certain areas of it.
If there is no real-time lighting in a game you can grade the game graphically on that. If the shadows are out you can grade the game.
I'm not sure that anyone has come up with a suitable definition for 'gameplay'... Is it one aspect of a game, or all the areas joined into one experience?!
Anyway, games can be given grades, because they can be compared to other games and the abilities shown in them. In my view, all fighting games should be compared to Soul Calibur, Tekken has problems, VF isn't that bad, but SC and hopefully SC2 will be the best fighters for a long time... cause theyre ace!
> Then in that case would you class Final Fantasy 10 a sequel to Final
> Fantasy 9. If you do, may I laugh?? Or Crash Team Racing to Crash
> Bandicoot 3??
