PSone was without doubt the console that brought
gaming to a mass audience but i think it's about time
PSone owners realised that the console is basically
dead. 5 years ago it was producing the best graphics
ever seen and it was a must buy for everyone. 5 years
in the computer world is a long time and for PSone to
have lasted this long is one hell of an achievement.
Lets face it - the hardware is now past it. If Sony
had kept the PSone as its main focus then it would
have been eaten up by the X-Box and the Gamecube -
Sony needed to bring out a console with much more
capabilities to be in with a chance.

It was done so in PS2 and some of the games coming out
on that machine are incredible. Compare GT2 and GT3's
graphics and you will see the huge improvements in the
hardware.

As for why the PSone titles are now slowly fading but
also getting worse and "childlike" is for two simple
reasons.
1) Games developers are excited by the new technology
PS2 brings and they want to exploit this technology
and why shouldn't they? They can make games for PSone
that don't give them possibilities to make almost real
graphics are they are limited to not much processing
power and speed. They are making better games than
they ever thought possible and who's complaining? Not
me.
2) PSone has had a mini version brought out which
essentially is aimed at young games players. It is
affordable for the parent to buy their kid and in
reality a PSone is fine for kids to use. That is why
the only games really coming out are Tweenies or Toy
Story and things like that. PSone had been turned into
a console for kids and PS2 is one for hardcore gamers
who supposedly have a lot of money.

Sony are concentrating on PS2 to make people buy it
and keep them in the market. PS2 is also a lot better
than PSone so the gaming world has seen a huge
improvement due to this shift of interest.

PSone owners - save up your money and enter the
marvellous world of PS2 - you have had 5 years of fun
and as the saying goes "All good things come to an
end".

The PS1 is not dead yet. Just because it isnt the best machine on the block anymore, it doesnt mean that the 30 odd million users in this country alone are going to stop playing it.

When the next gen consoles have the majority of gamers, the older machine will die, but it still has the userbase, and the games are still selling, so they will keep making games for it.

PSone may be quite old but it still has at least another years worth of quality gaming.

I'm with you Pro Evo. I still play my old PSone games today. Graphics aren't everything, so if a game plays well, then I'll keep on playing it. Admittedly if a game looks likea dogs dinner then it would put me off it. And at the moment PS2 games don't feel a GREAT deal different from PSone games so going between the formats is quite easy. Most of this is down to the controller being the same apart from analog buttons, but I think when developers really get to grips with PS2's hardware, we'll see games that feel like nothing we've played before. I think someone's already said it but a system has been developed to see how much of the PS2's power is being used by the game (much like the Performance Analyser for PSone) and GT3 came through the test as "only skimming the surface of what PlayStation 2 is capable of." Thats amazing.

It could very well be a different story at the end of the year, but at the moment, the PSOne is still alive. It may not be kicking as much as it used to, but it is still alive.

It is pretty easy to say that, but not everyone can afford a PS2 yet.

The PSOne is not dead - yet.
Fading, but not dead. There are still more games being released, and, the PSOne was still outselling PS2 a couple of months back.
