Hi, I read in the newspaper last week about proposals for the new Wembley or National Stadium to be built in Birmingham. There is now a swanky site regarding the plans including Picy's and a chance to "Vote Birmingham".

OK I'm not all that in favour of the national stadium in Birmingham. I would Prefer either Sheffield or Nottingham.
However the two most important facts are,

1. It's Not London
2. It's Not Manchester

PS The stadium looks quite good!

I think its been great to see England play at some of the best stadiums around the country - The only criticism about Wembley was how far away you are from the action. With games being played at Villa Park, Anfield, St James, etc it adds that unique English atmosphere to each game!!

True.

I haven't been to Birmgham, but after seeing some of the, how shall I say, less "touristy" bits of London, I couldn't imagine Birmingham being much worse!

Just a few weeks ago!

I know, London has gone downhill in recent years - but it's still got that 'bright lights, big city' atmosphere. Well, it has for me - maybe because I was born there?

Regardless, I still believe that a national stadium should be in or near the captial city, whichever country you're talking about.

Not being funny Wookiee, but when was the last time you went to London.

It's not glamerous, most of it is a dump to be honest.

I believe that the national stadium should be in London, or at least very close to it.

Any national stadium should be in or near the capital, but moreso in our case because it is easier to get to from Europe.

Manchester think they're bigger and better than they are (in city terms), but the fact is that no-one who's anyone wants to live there. Even Barthez is considering leaving Utd. at the end of the season because his wife-to-be doesn't find Manchester an attractive place to live. Similar has been reported about Beckham and Posh Spice, and I've also heard others say it in the past. It just isn't glamourous enough.
