A friend just sent me this - a prophecy/prediction made by Nostradamus in 1654.

With the events of yesterday fresh in our minds, I'll leave you to ponder whether there's anything in it or not...

"In the City of God there will be a great thunder, Two brothers torn apart by Chaos, while the fortress endures, the great leader will succumb. The third big war will begin when the big city is burning"

That because Nostradamus not only wrote vague predictions in a language that can be interpreted in a limitless number of ways (as others have said) but because he predicted so damn much some of must fit.

He predicted that there would be war in the future, hardly takes a visionary, does it. He's got identical merit to the "experts" in the tabloids writing about "bad luck in the foreseeable future". Oh, I stubbed my toe, the accuracy amazes.

Goodness I'm rambling...

This is very true, you can interpret these things however you want, they are too general.

That is the problem, the language used is so old now that some wording can only be guessed at. Even after translation, the actual phrases that Nostrodamus had written are still so vauge that they could mean anything.

Meanwhile people translate them any which way they want, for instance:

"In the year 1999 and two the twin structures will be aflame from fire in the sky and the world war will begin"

could also be translated as:

"In the year before millenium, the two people will fall out under the sun and they will war."

Someone should find the exact french wording.

Does he say "In the year 1999", or does he say "In the first year of the new century", which people have taken to mean 1999?

That's from verse 72, Century 10, and it actually reads In the year 1999 and 7 months, from the sky will come a great King of Terror.

The verses from Nostradamus were only 4 lines each, you've just put together all that seem relavant and have changed to suit (intentially I don't know)

I'm not saying I believe everything said in his prophecies but take a look at these taken directly from a book of his prophecieies (translated into English):

"Beasts wild with hunger will cross the rivers, the greater part of the battlefield will be against Hitler.
He will drag the leader in a cage of iron, when the child of Germany observes no law."

In his prophecy, he called Hitler, "Hister", which is very accurate!

How about this:

"The blood of the just will be demanded of London burnt by fire in three times twenty plus six. The ancient Lady will fall from her high position and many of the same denomination will be killed."

Remind you of anything?

The great fire of London in 16'66' (three times 20 plus 6)

It's unbeleivable how close his predictions are to our worlds history!

As with all predictive texts, they can be interpreted, translated, and manipulated to say whatever you want.

Just as what "Mystic Meg" says may, or (most probably) may not apply, depending on your personal situation, and willingness to believe it.

Here´s the hole text:"In the year of the new century and nine months, From the sky will come a great King of Terror.
The sky will burn at forty-five degrees. Fire approaches the great new city...
In the City of God there will be a great thunder.
Two brothers torn apart by Chaos, while the fortress endures, the great leader will succumb.

When the two birds of metal collide with mountains made by men.

The third big war will begin when the big city is burning"

Extract from the prohpecy critic page:

-------
"How does this apply to Nostradamus? Well I will show you...

If I make say a thousand prophecies that are fairly abstract for example:

In the City of God there will be a great thunder, Two brothers torn apart by Chaos, while the fortress endures, the great leader will succumb

Well let us analyse this..."
--------

It seems to me that he didn't actually say that he wrote that quote, merely that it is an example of an abstract prohpecy. So it's prefectly possible he did take the quote form Nostradamus.
