Making your own video can seem like a daunting task at first. You've got to come up with an initial idea, develop the idea, record the raw footage of the idea, import it onto your computer, edit the footage down, add audio, add effects and titles, save the movie file, burn the file onto a disk and finally show your friends and family what you've been doing in your room on your own for the past 5 days, so that they can laugh at your ridiculous attempt at a humourous, informative, interesting, sad or artistic video.
Well you everyday humans can hide in fear, as Microsoft have made this task even more difficult with Windows Movie Maker.

Doing the complete opposite of what it was meant to do (which was to enable people to make videos easier), this devil of a program has tortured me for months, so much so that I decided to write up my thoughts for other people to consume, and perhaps cause an uprising of people refusing to accept this freeware rubbish.

The word of the day is 'Free', meaning I'm not allowed to moan about a program that is free. Well I am, because quite frankly, it's a poor excuse for editing software. I've tried rival software that is also free, and it leaves Microsoft's Official Program trailing in the dust.

Movie Maker is an extremely easy to use program with simple drag and drop clips, audio and titles. Click save movie, and there you have it, your very own video. Very simple. That is when it works. The ironic thing is, it is an easy to use program. It's one of the best ways to make a movie, but it is very unreliable. I can guarantee that any person who has ever used Movie Maker will have had it crash on them at some point. You'll be extremely close to finishing and 'Bam!'. *End Task*

So please, do yourself a favour, if you have this program installed on your computer, remove it and download one of the far greater alternatives for free, and before you know it, you'll be the next Spielberg.

I find Windows Movie Maker extremely useful. Sure, it breaks a fair amount but I always make sure I save whatever work I'm doing almost after every change. For free software, it does most things I need rather nicely.
