Iwonder if you can help me with what i iam doing or suggest a solution. I am constucting an online trade site for framed prints. I have many different prints and about 6 frame choices. I would like my customers to be able to see the print in the different frames before they buy,if they wish. Instead of putting the same print on many times is there a tool i can use or make which will automatically wrap a frame of their choice around a print of their choice using buttons dropdowns etc.I can get the frame patterns scanned in . can you suggest anything or point me in the right direction. I am a junior web developer, and this is a tough one but iam sure it can be done. Please help. If i can sort this one out it will be great. Regards Stuart James

You can do this with floating boxes (layers) and JavaScript. Make all the images the same dimensions and make a bunch of frame images with transparent centres to match. Put each frame on a separate layer then use buttons with JavaScript actions to show or hide the layers as you choose. Note however that this technique is both a) only supported by recent (v4 or later) browsers and b) is supported differently under IE and Netscape. Adobe's GoLive rather neatly writes the JavaScript for you to take care of the latter.

An alternative would be to do the whole thing in Flash.

Don't use the Virtual Shop thing. I'll write a demonstration page and send it to you.

Thankyou very much for the info.I understand what you are saying, but i need some instuction here, my java is on a low light at the moment. There is so much to try and understand about this project and how it will all come together at the end.I do not claim to be all knowledgeable
and i love to learn off others that have more experience than me . So this web site Iam building has,in the online ordering section , under the picture of each print a dropdown box that has an initial title of say choose your frame, then when this is clicked it will display more boxes of the available frames for that print. The customer will choose the frame and it will put it around the picture above, if they are happy with it they then click add to order or if not, look at the picture in a different frame. All this is to be used in a software package called Virtual shop 2. below is the reply i got from them on the same question

Hello Stuart

I hope you are well. Thanks for your enquiry about VirtualShop.

I attach a method that uses Javascript and Stylesheets to do this
which you may want to use. The images should be extracted to the
'images' folder.

I hope this helps.

I understand what he is saying but i need more detailed info.
I better understand things step by step, now i do not know you but if you will work with me and help me do this i would see you o.k for some beers. If you want to know where i am at now i can give you my email ad and the url to take a look at the program i want to build the store with i paid £99 for the licence one off payment.www.virtualshop.co.uk

Yes, you need to create a table which will house:

4 sections of the frame (top, bottom, left, right) and the print in the middle:

Top frame
Left frame Print Right frame
Bottom frame

Now, you need to write some JavaScript to replace the 4 frames when you want to, and the central print when you want to.

Tell me if you understand so far. If you do, you can go about splitting the frames up whilst I write the script. If you don't, I suppose a demonstration is in order.
