Is it just me that this seems to happen to?

You're playing a game, any game it doesn't really matter, and you get to a level you can't do. You try again and you still can't do it. What do you do? Do you carry one playing and playing until you manage to do it? I can't do that. If I can't do it after a couple of attempts then I stop, otherwise I get really frustrated with the game.

So I stop, I leave the game, maybe for a couple of weeks before I come back to it again. I sit down wondering how long it will be before I can do this level, when suddenly, I do it first time, no worries. I then procede to breeze through the next couple of levels which are harder than the one I got stuck on, before it happens again.

Strange.

Also, do you ever get to a stage where you can't be bothered to play any more of the game, even if you haven't completed it? I think I've only completed about 3 games in my life. The rest I'm just not bothered about.

I get to a stage where I don't really care if I play any more or not. Maybe I like to just play the multi-player, or I get a new game. I don't know what it is, but I have loads of unfinished games, but I don't feel the urge to play them. Like now, I'd rather write this, or play with eJay when I could be playing GTAdvance, GP3, Max Payne, B&W, THPS2 (GBA), UT and a load more, but I just don't care.

Does this show that games don't have an involving enough story any more? Or that the replayability isn't there any more? Or there isn't the addictiveness about them like there were with games before?

Am I the only one that thinks this?

Playing hobbits?

Can't say that i've ever come accross any hobbits, game players or otherwise.

Oh sorry, you said habits.

No, I don't wear a habit when I play, that would be stupid.

Your Honour, you've hit the spot! I get the exact same feeling, especially with games such as F! Racing Championship, and more lately, Excitebike 64. Although this is a more rare occurence in games that have an established story, I have found myself to do this often; however, the reason for this is simple - if you're getting tired of a game, then it's becvause you've played it too much. Leave it for a few weeks and then come back to it - it's like having a new game.

This happens to me quite often and I get awfully annoyed and sometimes neglect the game for a while. I then come back to it a couple of weeks later thinking why I left such a great game and start playing it again. I then get stuck and eventually plough through it and dont get as annoyed with it. It is almost definitely set up like this but some gamers just trun to cheats or sell the game because they can't complete a certain bit. But I try my hardest and get the job done.

If I'm using my PC I don't have to stand up to look out the window. Nothing interesting ever happens out there anyway and I could be saving the world instead of seeing what's going on.

There are some levels that really do my 'ed in. Like silo on Goldeneye, on 00 Agent. I will try about 5-6 times then stop, play something else and come back to it.

I know I can do it. But not at this moment in time.

So I come back later and then I can usually do it.

I dont think I have completed many games because they are so damn hard. Take Goldeneye for example, Its good, but there are 4 difficulties! Yea its fun but I have other thing to do like play other games and social life, food, girls etc etc.

I also get bored of just playing one game for 6 months non-stop.

My habits are Exactly the same as yours YH - everything you said is the same for me. I think its because Im a more casual gamer, and it simply isnt a big deal for me if I dont complete a game.

I continue playing because I have the ability to learn from what I'm doing wrong and I try to improve. Sometimes I stop and I think of the solution later on.

I have never reached this stage and I hope I never will. It sounds awful.

I personally don't think like this. I will play almost anything and I have never been bored playing games.

Well the first part is right, it can be annoying to complete some levels of games and you complete them first time when you go back to it more rested and less annoyed. The other part I'm not so sure about, It's true that some games just don't seem worth completing. They maybe gave you everything too quickly and there's nothing left to play for. Perhaps the story is just not interesting enough. Sometimes you'd be right not to play through, for example, the ending of Half-Life is the worst I've ever seen (as far as I can remember). The games you listed though, it seems strange that you've managed to drop Max Payne because I found it's storyline to be excellent and involving. So much so that I played through the whole game in a couple of days by playing it so much. It is a bit short but it's a worthwhile game and it's just like playing a good film. Black & White is another one, it's only five levels and you can't be bothered with it? Are you being a good god maybe? You might want to try starting a new game and going for the opposite alignment, maybe you've got the wrong creature or perhaps you're insane.

I sometimes feel that I can't be bothered to go and play something but you just have to force yourself and you'll start to enjoy it. It could well be that an outside influence is keeping you down and a good game is what you need to cheer you up (don't play Max Payne if this is the case, oh no). Whatever it is I'm sure your enthusiasm will come back to you just try to help it along by playing even if you don't feel to much like it at first.
