Sierra-Online, who've always done some great RPG's for the PC, are developing one of the most famous adventures of all time for the X-Box. They are producing The Fellowship of the Ring for 2002, The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings Online for 2003 with the promise of more to come.

My first ever text based adventure on the 56k Spectrum just happened to be The Hobbit, so for me it looks like gaming is coming full circle again.

There's a low-res demo movie (7MB) on the web from Sierra Online with some nice FMV clips of what's to come. I was a little surprised at the 'low-res' comment, you can actually see fingernails on the hands of some of the characters, I'd have said this was high-res, but maybe the X-Box is capable of even more than I'm hoping at present.

I just hope that they manage to put a package of games together that actually does homage to J.R.R. Tolkien's work rather than detract from it as most other medias have done in the past.

In my opinion I dont think they could ever do justice to the lord of the rings books, but all we can hope for is a darn fine game, and a awesome film too

I can remember watching my brother play The Hobbit on the Spectrum. When you moved to a new area, the landscape was drawn in front of your eyes very slowly.

Good news about a LOTR game on XBox. Like you say, I hope they can do it justice.
