But then Super Mario World didn't even look as flashy as Sonic, back in the day. It's all about gameplay, and Super Mario World is still ten times as much fun as any 'ordinary' platformer. What made it unusual at the time was the ability to take alternate routes through the game, revisiting old levels to search for hidden exits that might lead to a whole new world. Anyone with a small amount of gaming skill could make it to the final Bowser showdown, but finding all 96 exits took patience and imagination. No, we'll keep quiet because the game is old enough now to surprise a new generation of players. There's so much to see, and we can't wait to get started on it all over again. There are Yoshis (their first appearance), Switch Palaces, Ghost Houses, Mario's cape, the Star levels (with a secret soundtrack), and some of Shigeru Miyamoto's most fiendish puzzles. Basically, it's the GBA title we're most looking forward to after Mario Kart.
A multiplayer mode has been tacked on, but it seems to be the same one from the first Mario Advance. A strange decision from Nintendo. We're sure there must be other hidden goodies to find, but it looks like Super Mario Bros Deluxe for Game Boy Color will remain the most comprehensive Mazza rehash for a while longer. Next on the wish list: updates of Super Mario Bros 3 and Yoshi's Island!
Personally, I'd rather get a Snes with the game for £20 rather than buy a GBA and spend a further £35 on the game.
