Arsenal: Martin Keown was yesterday fined £10,000 fine and handed a one match suspension following an incident in involving Leeds' Mark Viduka on May 5 last season.

The Gunners defender reacted by issuing the following statement: "I'm naturally, disappointed with the timing of this hearing. Particularly as the match was played four months ago. Although I'm frustrated to be missing a match for Arsenal, the outcome demonstrates that I did not act maliciously."

Blackburn Rovers: Millwall's Australian midfielder Lucas Neill has joined Rovers on a three month loan deal after impressing boss Graeme Souness during a trial.

Souness, who believes that he's just one or two players short of having a squad capable of making its mark on the Premiership, says: "He comes highly recommended and is a right-sided player, an area we have been looking to strengthen."

Meanwhile, Simon Grayson has moved on loan to Second Division Notts County.

Charlton Athletic: Addicks' defender Richard Rufus may miss the majority of the season after a scan confirmed that he requires an operation.

Rufus limped out of Charlton's 1-0 win at Ipswich ten days ago after sustaining an injury to the ligaments on the outside of his right knee. Head physio at The Valley Andy Jones expects Rufus to be out for six months at least.

Derby County: The Rams have confirmed that they turned down a bid from Glasgow Rangers for Seth Johnson. The England under-21 midfielder is rated highly by officials at Ibrox but he only signed a new three-year contract at Pride Park during the summer and manager Jim Smith is keen to keep him at the club.

Everton: Paul Gascoigne and Abel Xavier both staked their claims for a return to the Blues' first team by completing a full 90 minutes for the reserves last night.

Both could now be in contention for a place in the starting line-up for Saturday's daunting trip to Old Trafford. Manager Walter Smith will make a decision laterin the week.

Fulham: Craven Cottage chief Jean Tigana is looking to make another addition to his squad. The big spending Cottagers are reportedly on the lookout for a top quality centre back.

Leeds United: Nigel Martyn is facing a race against time to be fit for Saturday's Premiership clash with League leaders Bolton.

Martyn pulled out of the England squad yesterday after suffering a knee injury in training. With reserve keeper Paul Robinson still short of match practice after undergoing an operation on his finger during the summer David O'Leary could be facing a goalkeeping crisis. If neither recover in time Danny Milosevic may well make his first team debut against the Trotters.

Leicester City: Foxes keeper Ian Walker has been called up to the England squad for tonight's match with Albania. Walker, who won his last international cap four years ago, joined up with the squad after Nigel Martyn pulled out through injury.

Manchester United: Boss Alex Ferguson has denied speculation that Dwight Yorke's Old Trafford future is in doubt following their reported training ground bust-up.

Yorke turned up late for training yesterday but Ferguson has stressed that it will not affect his place in the squad or future at the club.

Middlesbrough: Midfielder Phil Stamp could be on the verge of joining First Division Millwall on loan, with a view to a permanent deal. Stamp has recently recovered from injury but faces a battle for a place in the first team.

Lions' boss Mark McGhee believes 25 year-old Stamp could be a useful addition to his side but nothing has yet been finalised.

Southampton: Dean Richards' agent has suggested that the Saints defender may hand in a transfer request.

Richards has been the subject of intense speculation linking him with a move to Tottenham and his agent Ian Richards says: "We will be meting with Rupert Lowe to discuss Dean's situation, and putting in a transfer request is one option.

"It's a course of action we are looking at, although reluctantly."

Sunderland: Peter Reid is considering bringing a goalkeeper in on loan ahead of Saturday match with Blackburn at the Stadium of Light.

First choice keeper Thomas Sorensen broke his nose during Denmark's World Cup qualifier with Northern Ireland at the weekend and his understudy Jurgen Macho is also nursing a knock.

The Black Cats boss says: "No decisions have been taken yet. The main thing is to find out exactly how Thomas is and to wait to see what happens with Jurgen when he takes a fitness test later this week."
