At the moment there is only really one truly famous...addictive game that EVERYONE knows by the name of....*drum roll*......SNAKES. You see people playing it all over the place, adults and kids alike, everywhere.
Even at work you can catch people playing the game...normally in the loo lol...I wonder whether the SR staff do that??
Except over the past year or so there have been increasingly more games such as tamagotchis, rpgs, all the old arcade classics like space invaders and even a fishing game etc...
Many developers, on top of developing for the next generation consoles, are now shifting their attention to mobile phone games. For a start Sega are planning a Nights, Chu Chu Rocket and possibly a sonic game. is this a sign of things to come?
As we all know wap hasn't been as successful as predicted but the mobile phone companies such as Nokia are shifting more and more to internet on mobile phones...if that's the case then more online mobile phone games will be made.....
Will mobile phone games ever rival the likes of the gameboy advance and other handhelds (well actually the "other handhelds" have been utter failures)...this is of course unpredictable...
For a start, people like small mobile phones -if you walk around the streets virtually everyone now has an 8210...the screen area is not only very small but also it actually overheats very easily. Will people still have want a small phone if the games that are released are good?
The good points though is that frankly who doesn't have a mobile phone nowadays (well actually I don't lol....cos my parents are unwillingly to pay for one). If the games are successful it could also further boost the mobile phone market by encouraging people to get better phones...hopefully ones that will be able to play in colour (actually the shot of chu chu rocket I saw in a magazine for the mobile phone was in colour).
However how long do you think we would have to wait for say color to be incorporated? Even if the mobile phones allow for online sort of games...won't it be a bit too expensive?
What do you think about mobile phone gaming??
If they improved the quality of the games, there would be a kind of novelty in playing them, but it would soon wear off.
Now there's a thought: the PlayStation gave rise to the so-called "Casual Gamer", perhaps mobile phone games will give rise to the "Novelty Gamer"? - (stupid thought, sorry).
