The first PC game I played was Monkey Island. It was a huge step on from the Amstrad CPC464, as the game loaded instantly, it didn't use a tape (amazing) and had something called a mouse. At first I was reluctant, but sitting down I was hooked in minutes.

Since then I've played many of the classics such as Leisure Suit Larry, Sam and Max, X-com, Dune. These are real games. Back in those days computers weren't built on raw power and so gameplay was the key to keeping people interested. New and exciting ideas made games not graphics.

Today it's a different story. With technology moving so fast, last year's computer is worth scrap. Games companies are desperately trying to keep up and make games before they look outdated, but they lose one thing on the way - great gameplay. Modern games are based on enhanced graphics of old ideas, and rarely now do you see any real classic games, or ones that make you want to play to the end.

The new 1GHz Pentium is out, so powerful your computer feels hot to touch, but big deal. Computers are easily advanced enough to deliver top quality graphics and animation, now is the time games companies need to stop focusing on graphics and get back to what's important - GREAT games.
