I've completed 250 & 500 leagues, 750cc much more difficult, excellent effect when you pass sound barrier at just over 750mph !!
Could do with few more tracks though (GT3 has spoilt me)

I'm hanging on for wipeout fusion.

I`m now onto the next engine level, something about 500G.

It allowed me to break the sound barrier, and make that weird effect. You`ll love it when you do it. It was quieter than I expected, but still kinda fun. The music cuts out, and the screen blurs a little. It feels as if... you`ve just broken the sound barrier, which is nice.

I really need to play this game... I'm surprised that not many people are talking about it though...?

I am on the third league, like you say, difficulty level seems about right, can be fustrating, I also tried going back to the start and winning every race but you still need 25,000 plus to win league two!!

I agree, it is superb. I`ve only done the first two leagues, so I don`t know how hard the latter two are, but so far seems set just right.

As the PSM2 review said, the handling is extremely sensitive, but you get used to it after a couple of laps.

Its an amazing game - I would say without doubt the fastest racer I have ever played - It really shows off the power of PS2!! Gets quite difficult too early though which can get frustrating!!
