i was advised to get a radeon 9800 pro because there is some problem with the xt.

is this true, and also which of the 2 chipsets is better

oh i was also told that i do not need a 256mb card because by the time i do need 1 the 9800 pro will be slow so i should get a 128mb one. is that alos true

9800XT is the better, faster card. I haven't heard of any problems yet.

What adrian says about overclocking is true, but the chances are you are not an expert user and probably not able to do it. No offense, it is not for beginners.

As for the amount of RAM on the cards, I may be wrong, but I think with some previous cards it was found that 256Mb was slightly slower in the benchmarks than the 128Mb versions.

In my opinion, 256 Mb is unnecessary expense and you will have replaced the card through old age before you really need more RAM on it.

256Mb can't hurt. On Max Payne 2 when you put loads of settings to the Max and the put up Anti-aliasing and anistropic filtering it does warn you that it needs more than 128Mb, yet it still works on 128Mb. The 9800XT is the faster and better card, but costs more. The 9800XT is a slightly overclocked version of the 256Mb 9800 Pro, so if you got one of these you could easily overclock it to an XT as long as you had the cooling. If you have the money and want the best card then the 9800XT is the one to go for. Theres not too much difference with the XT and the Pro. 128Mb is also fine at the moment and wont really be out of date until the card is out of date.
