***CONSPIRACY THEORY***

There is a guy in a mental institution that raves about the end of the world, as we know it. The doctors pay him no heed. The nurses don’t care. It is regular business for them: seeing a guy raving stark lunacy.
In the middle of the nights, he would suddenly get up from dreams filled with evil scientists, a maddening sense of understanding that the hospital is a place where people are slaughtered shadowy purposes, and an overwhelming sense of impending doom. He would get up utterly soaked in sweat and scream, “They are coming! They are coming! It is all coming down! Can’t you see? Can’t you?” He would scream until the medical officers would calmly walk-in, restrain him and inject him with sedative. Then as he would lose against the invisible tug of the sleep-inducing sedatives, he would mutter: “It’s one big f***ing conspiracy theory…”
He does not who he is? Or why he is there? Even his own name is a senseless shadow of a distant past. He does not know why do they think he is a lunatic even when he knows he is correct in his beliefs.
There are questions. So many questions.

*game begins*

He is dreaming of a world filled with demonic doctors and satanic devices all out to get him, as he flees across the barren landscape of his broken dreams. He has an odd sense of déjà vu. As if all this has already happened in another lifetime, in another counter-reality.
That night, when he gets up, all he knows is: they are coming… and he has to flee…

Chapter One:
He tears his bed apart and manages to extract a metal rod. With that in his hand he feels more authoritative, somewhat more in control of the situation. The door cracks open, a ray of light enters, and with it, a guy with a gun. He hides beside the door and clubs the guy over the head, bludgeoning him to death; knowing that if he did not, the man would kill him later…
Then he takes the dead man’s gun and flees. The hospital has been run over by thugs that are out there for only one reason: eliminating him. He fights through them, knowing that this is no longer a dream, but a fight for life. A fight he would lose if he slacked the tiniest bit.
But he needs answers, so he breaks into the record room in between gunfights, and steals the addresses of his medical officer from the computer records. The fighting occurs in corridors, doctors’ offices and wards, i.e., general hospital locations. Eventually he flees from the hospital into the cold nights of the City of Gladiators: Rome.

Chapter Two:
Then he pays his doctor a visit. They talk, but only because the doctor is held at gunpoint. He tells him his name is Kane Flint. All he knows is that someone high up above transferred Kane to the mental facility some three months ago. He tells him that he was instructed to give Kane hallucinogenic sedatives and drugs that induce amnesic effects. If he disagreed, he was threatened for his life. They also offered him money.
This high mighty power was trying its level best to assure that Kane’s brains remain eternally fried…
The doctor knows not much else, except the fact that there is a guy that checks on Kane very often. Lately, he was displeased by the way things were progressing and seemingly he wanted Kane silenced permanently. The doctor then gives him the address of this fellow. Problem is, that this new lead lives in Munich, Germany, some one thousand miles away.
At this point, the thugs who have determined your next course of action by reading the log files on the records computers in the hospital invade the doctor’s residence in hordes. The doctor gets capped first off. Kane begins his battle for survival once again. After a hard fought battle in the doctor’s villa, Kane manages to get out alive.

Chapter Three:
Now he needs a ride. To get a ride he needs cash. So he decides to steal. Besides, roaming around in a hospital garb isn’t exactly too inconspicuous. So he breaks into large department store and dresses up all new. Then he breaks open the cash registers and gets himself some hard cash.
But before he knows it he is “dodging bullets like raindrops (Max Payne)” again. It does not make sense. They could have tracked him to the doctor’s place through the computer records. But how could they possibly track him to a completely random department store? It sounded impossible, yet they had managed to somehow track him down.
Fighting occurs amongst cloth racks, jewelry displays, utilities and tools aisles etc. etc., typical departmental store setting as he escapes into the night again. Next stop, Munich…

Chapter Four:
Kane assesses his situation. He has thugs on his tail like bloodhounds on a trail. He has no friends; he has no place to take shelter. Worst of all he can’t even remember who he really is.
As he traverses back alleys and dark, shady neighborhoods, a name begins to resound in his head: “Vladimir Radev”. He does not know who he is, or why he knows him. All he knows is that he can’t get to Munich on foot. So he decides to pay Vladimir a visit. He finds his address from a yellow pages directory (or calls the damn information, I don’t know – I need to work on this part a bit). He lives outside the city, his base of operations being a salvage yard. Seemingly, he is a construction worker gone bankrupt.
Kane pays him a visit. Radev opens the door and nearly screams. Looking around to make sure you are alone, he pulls you inside.
Radev: I thought you were dead, or that they locked you in a padded room and threw away the key.
Kane: You know me?
Radev: ‘You know me?’ After six months of complete blackout, the first thing you say to me is: ’You know me?’ What the hell is the matter with you? Oh God. You’re bleeding!
Kane: I ran into some trouble…

It turns out that Vladimir is Kane’s best friend, a person whom Kane has known since forever. He tells Kane a story. He tells Kane how those two graduated from La Fayette University in France, him with a Public Relations degree and Kane with a degree in robotics. He tells Kane of his six-figure job and his huge mansion in Paris. He tells of his wife and her untimely death. He tells you of how you were deemed insane the day you held your co-workers at gunpoint. Then he tells Kane of his daughter…
Kane cries. He can’t remember anything but can’t explain the grief that clutches his heart in an iron clasp. He has a daughter he does not even know…
He tells Radev of what happened in the night. He tells him of his lead, and his plans to pay his friend in Munich a visit. Radev says he’ll get forged documents, and help him get to Munich.
Enter bad guys. If Radev was his best friend, then they must have figured that is where Kane will go next. Radev tells Kane meet him at the harbor in two days and bails out. Kane begins his target practice again…

Chapter Five:
The next morning there is a massive manhunt in Rome for one Kane Flint, for armed robbery and assault and murder of innocent civilians and store employees at a department store.
Kane goes completely underground, into the abandoned sewers of the city slums. For two days he waits inside, eating trash, sleeping when he can. His dreams are haunted with nightmares he cannot explain. The last night a little boy approaches him, gives him a note, saying that the old man gave it.
The note is apparently scribbled in a hurry, but what it said made Kane’s hair stand on end:
you need to leave you need to leave now they are coming for you and they are here… and they are not the ordinary ones…

Bullets begin to fly again as Kane makes his way out of the sewers tunnels. The foot soldiers sent after him this time are tougher, meaner and very hardboiled. Somebody, this “high up person”, wants Kane dead. And he wants it badly.
Kane makes his way through the sewers littered with sewer rats and shambles that are the homes of the poorest of the poor. The foot soldiers are callous as butchers on dead meat. They mow down every man, woman and child as they pursue Kane in the sewers. Kane shoots his way out and somehow manages to survive.

Chapter Six:
The harbor is deserted. Radev is nowhere to be seen, and there are bad guys all over the place. You make your way to the lighthouse where Radev is supposed to rendezvous with you. Fighting occurs in the piers, the warehouses at the harbor and in and around the lighthouse itself.
When you clean out the place, you find Radev gagged and bound in the cellar beneath the lighthouse. He is unhurt but badly shaken. He gives you your new passport and identity. Enter: more bad guys. They cap Radev as well. Kane goes after them all in a final shoot out at the harbor…
When he gets done, his dual glocks smoke and his mind is a storm of raging fury. He wants more. He wants the guy in Munich. He wants the goddamn higher power. He wants to battle God if that is what it takes for him to get his answers…
When you start pushing a man, sooner or later, he starts pushing back…

Chapter Seven:
Kane departs to the contact that Radev has given just before getting capped. It turns out to be some army base with a landing stripe. His contact is a retard pilot everyone knows by the name of Huey. He seems very capable of crashing the plane. He takes your passport, clears you from customs and everything, and tells you to be ready in another two hours.
Kane mills about for an hour. He comes across a dirty bum sitting on a rag of cloth right outside the airfield. He is old, emaciated and deformed.
Old Man: Can you spare some cash for a poor homeless?
Kane: This is all I got. (Takes out cash he has from the department store and hands it over).
Old Man: Thank you. (Accepts the cash and hurries off into the darkness of the night.)
Only then Kane realizes that he has left him a note in his hand:

if you must board the plane, don’t let him crash it he will crash it he has no other choice but to crash it

Scribbled. Again. In a hurry.
Kane looks about, but too late. The old man who had saved his butt in the sewers has vanished. But Kane has a feeling. He’d be seeing more of him.
At this point an army officer asks him what is he doing out here. Then he looks at him more closely and runs of screaming some thing strange. The next thing he knows, the army base is out to get him. He has been identified as “one of the departmental store butchers”. And now the army wants you.
Dead or Alive.
The shoot out is tough but rewarding, he wipe out the small army base, and gather supplies. Somehow, he manages to find Huey. They split.

Chapter Eight:
They then board the plane and Kane sits in the cockpit with Huey. When Huey complains, Kane takes out his gun and tells him to keep course, or to eat some 9mm lead.

Huey: We can’t land there in Germany! They’ll know we are coming. I was supposed to crash the plane and parachute out myself.
Kane: Just drive…
Huey: They’ll be ready for us.
Kane: Then we best be ready for them.

The plane lands outside Munich in an abandoned airfield. The action starts off immediately as the thugs surround the airfield, blocking all exits. Their number could be made sufficiently high in order to force Kane to sneak out of the place after the initial shootout around the airplane…
Having a full scare war on an abandoned airfield complete with planes that he can blow up etc., could make up for some frickin’ cool action sequences.

Chapter Nine:
Kane does not want to wait around looking for answers anymore. He wants them even from the last blood-curling scream of a thug. The heat is on and by the looks of it; a lot of people want him dead. He goes straight after the Munich guy (we’ll think of a name later).
He goes to the neighborhood that is supposedly the working place of the Munich guy. While looking for answers, he bumps into gangsters. After he makes mince meat out of the two of them, they decide to help him out.
They tell him that he can gather whatever information he needs from the jeweler store on Engel Street. They tell him it is the Munich guy’s office as well. Kane heads there. He sneaks around a lot in this mission. The jeweler store is rigged with security and alarm systems that he has to get past to get to office of the Munich guy. Only there he can find his address and find out the answers to his questions.
He finds the office and takes the address. The phone rings. Hesitantly, he picks it up.
“Kane?”
“Who is this?”
“They are on their way Kane. They are after you again. They know where you are. You need to get rid of them.”
Questions will come later, he realizes. Right now, if the old man is telling his to move it, he better move.
“How?”
“Rendezvous with me at the address I give you…”
Kane bails. The bad guys, as prophesized, are all there, eager to place a bullet between his eyes. Alarms go off as Kane fights his way out the small store (only a few thugs). Some additional fighting could occur as more carloads (or drive by shooters – oh yeah!) join the action. Eventually, he manages to escape his certain doom.

Chapter Ten:
Kane has managed to barely escape his pursuers and he knows they are in hot pursuit. The address the old man has given him turns out to be a neural surgeon’s clinic. Yeah, Kane thinks, can’t get enough o’ that!
You rush inside. Inside you meet doctor Rheingau Weingut Egert. He is a neural surgeon that has been instructed to remove a piece of metal from your brain. He can do it with you being fully conscious, using cutting edge laser technology.
The old man speaks to Kane from over the phone. He is told of his work with Life Expectations Inc., a German based company specializing in helping the impaired stand up on their own two feet using robotics technology. His work is progressing smoothly until one day you are called into the office of the firm chairman (Munich guy) and told the inside details of the company.
The “Life Expectations Inc.” is bull, a load of crap used to disguise the true purpose of the company. The company is doing research on biomechanics: the utter fusion of machine and body. Using this technology, they could create the perfect cleaner (assassin), the perfect killing machine, or the perfect soldier. They could even make human time bombs. With such horrendous technology at their disposal, a person could do literally anything and no one would be able to stop him.
The old man tells Kane all this as he feels the doctor sealing his skull using laser technology. Kane gets up feeling lightheaded as the surgeon hands him his tracking device. It is a snail-like mechanical thing that had been attached to his upper spine. He feels vile, used, but at the same time strong and confident.
He hears the screeches of the cars outside. They have tracked him down for the last time. Kane knows that in order to work efficiently, he need to rid him of this tail. He dispatches the baddies one by one, as he makes his way out of the clinic through the roof. There could be a chase sequence on the rooftops (Max Payne style – except with Kane fleeing…), until the chapter ends in him all ready and prepped up to go after the Munich guy.
I was thinking we could also make him sound dead to the bad guys this level to allow smooth transition to the next one. Read on, you’ll see.

Chapter Eleven:
The old man tells him not to raid the Mansion of the Munich guy. In his opinion it is suicidal. Instead, he says that he wants Kane to get your answers the next evening at Weinburg park in the evening, where the Munich guy comes to jog. Kane obliges.
He remembers elements of his life with flashbacks.
They tell him to work on the project and be a landmark figure of the history of mankind. He refuses. They tell him that his wife and daughter are in their custody. He is forced to work day and night until they are ready to create the first prototype. He is told to be the first “volunteer”. Upon refusal, his wife is shot and his two-year-old daughter held at gunpoint. He has no choice but to surrender. After his wife is in the ground, he comes back and “volunteers”. The last thing he remembers after that is of him entering the operation booths to be used as a guinea pig. Then: blankness. All he can recollect after that is his troubled days at the hospital.
So many questions….
He realized he is crying. He love Andrea so much.
The b*stards would pay dearly.
The next evening, he goes after the guy in the park. He has a large security detail even though he has been told that Kane was burnt alive at the Clinic. Here we could have the element of sneak attacks again. Take out the entire squad of escorts without alerting the others and without killing the last baddie. That should be fairly interesting… No?
The Munich guy gets alerted and flees. Kane pursues him, warding off bad guys in the hunt for the Munich guy.

Chapter Twelve:
The Munich guy arrives at his mansion. Kane chases him down, fighting a desperate fight for survival and more importantly, for the truth.
He goes through the mansion and hunts down the Munich guy. Staring into the barrel of an m4a1 assault rifle, he cooperates a lot more. He tells Kane the name of the big guy. But he does not know the location. He does provide Kane with the location of the test labs though. Kane cannot leave him alive, now can he? But the sucker turns out to be a lot difficult to beat than he had anticipated. (Or maybe he can extract the information later like with Vinnie Cogniti.)

Chapter Thirteen:
Next stop: his old office. It brings back memories. Memories that hurt, but that he cannot escape from… He walks through his workplace, capping a few guards.
He accidentally trips the silent alarm. Life Expectation’s special security forces pile in with Kane written on every bullet that they fire. These are very trained, highly professional soldiers who want Kane very dead. The heat of the battle rages on in the office complex as Kane caps off one bad guy after another in search for the big boss’s location. This is when he stumbles across the test facility entrance chamber.

Chapter Fourteen:
The nightmare begins, the worst battle Kane has fought to date. Mechanically alterated humans and animals surround him as he tears the facility apart.
Many of them have many special capabilities and are equipped with experimental super-weapons that only they can use as they are attached to their bodies. They hunt Kane from out of every corner, every crevice.
Then it occurs to Kane. The test facility has been shut down for a while because of the abominations that have run amok and now plague the facility.
Kane eventually manages to locate the possible location of the big boss. He makes his way out of the facility and goes after the last guy.

Chapter Fifteen:
The possible location is presidential suite the 20th floor of a five star hotel. Kane has to now beat all the odds. Infiltrate a highly secure security systems (can’t walk in with guns blazing now can he!), deal with the guards of the hotel as well as the so “partially-successful experiments.” Elements of intense action, stealth and sneaking can be used to make for a very powerfully moving level.
After a significantly lengthy battle as he makes his way to the top, he reaches the presidential suite. His answers wait inside. The final boss tells him how he went insane after the experiment and could not get his bearings. He tells him of how they manufactured a story about him pulling a gun on a co-worker (the old man).
They needed to observe him so they put him inside a mental asylum and placed specialized doctors on him around the clock. They reported to the Munich guy who took the reports to him. Based on these reports: they progressed further.
They also needed to test his abilities, so the raid on the hospital was planned. But then he proved to be too good and dispatched wave after wave of thugs into the other side of hell.
Kane just tells him he is about to die.
The Final boss is not mechanized. But he is a tough son of a b***h.
The game (seemingly) ends with Kane fleeing the Hotel and the Hotel suite fantastically blowing to smithereens.

Chapter Sixteen:
Kane has come a long, long way: from the insane asylum in Rome, to the point of his origin. He is triumphant, but tired. He is victorious, but weak from battle. All he wants now is to find his daughter in France and to start all over again: to give his daughter all that she has ever needed and/or deserved.

He lets the rubble of the past and the ashes of previous battles settle down for a month. He is desperate to see his daughter, but better be safe than sorry. A month later, he departs for France. He visits the orphan asylum that houses children from the age of 8 – 16 and nourishes them into better human beings…
He arrives at night and talks to the warden. He identifies himself as one Nicholas Flint; uncle of Susan Flint, here to see his niece and to take her to her new home. The warden promptly tells Kane that Susan has been picked up yesterday by one Kane Flint, father of Susan Flint. The realization hits him with force: someone has kidnapped his daughter.
Someone who is not quite done with Kane yet…
He walks out to see a Mercedes Benz stop next to him. The old man rolls down a window. He instructs Kane to get in.
The old man tells him that he was not really his co-worker. He was in fact one of the project leaders for Project BioMech at Life Expectations Inc. He also felt the raw power that the project posed and the threat it held to humanity if led into the wrong hands. He tells Kane that he then quit the project and tried to pull strings to get it liquidated. That is when the new guy took over and threatened the old man’s life. Only then did the old man back off, knowing that if he dies, no one else would ever raise a voice.
That is when Kane came into the picture. The old man had been secretly observing many of the initial experiments done at Life Expectations. In Rome, when Kane proved too tough for the thug crew to beat, he caught the old man’s attention. Since then, the old man had been specifically tracking him, watching his every move, and helping only when the risk was minimal or Kane absolutely needed help.
The old man tells him the final piece of the puzzle. He tells him that the guy you whacked off at the Hotel Suite was just a puppet. The true mastermind was still behind the shadows, a man who had planned everything to utter perfection, only until now. The only thing that had foiled his whole scheme had been a harmless, presumably brain dead mental patient in a mental hospital in Rome
Kane Flint…
As the old man is telling the name of the true mastermind, the car screeches to an abrupt halt in a deserted segment outside city limits. The driver complains that the road up ahead is blocked.
Enter bad guys. They have set up an elaborate trap and cut Kane off from both sides of the road with cars. They are professionals with high tech weaponry and ballistic armor, and they are all geared up and ready to go. Kane and the old man manage to jump out just in time as a rocket launcher is used to rape the Mercedes to shreds. The old man gets tossed into bushes. Kane gets tossed into the open.
All he has to begin with is his trusty Glocks and limited ammunition and a horde of baddies up and down the road. Fighting occurs between cars on the road, in cozy corners and very lowly maneuverable crevices. Kane battles again amidst flying bullets and exploding cars all around him. (The fight scene can also be in a deserted part of town to provide for more cover, traps and intense action sequences.) More cars and thugs pull up as Kane begins to relive the first rule of the wild: survival of the fittest…

Chapter Seventeen:
After a long and tiresome battle, Kane stands victorious once again. He searches for the old man. He lies in the bushes, bleeding and very near death.

Old Man: A father would do anything Mr. Kane, anything to help protect his child. He will do anything no matter how wrong, how twisted the child is.
Kane: You must rest. I’ll get help.
Old Man: There is no help for me. I tried so hard to keep him away from harm. So hard, but I never succeeded. Now he has sent his thugs to kill you, not caring what will happen to his old man in the process.
Kane: Who is he? Just tell me and I can finish this. Maybe there is salvation after death…
Old Man: You know Mr. Kane… there are some things that we must let go… I guess I could not let go of my only child… But now I must. There is no other choice…

He gives Kane the address. He also warns him that this b*stard is supposedly the first successful BioMech. So he’ll be a very hard nut to crack… But before he can tell the name, his fatigue, blood loss and old age take over. He dies in Kane’s arms.
Kane repacks. Reloads himself from all the weaponry that was sent with the thugs to finish him. Then he goes after the last guy.
The last fight for survival begins at a scenic farmhouse by the countryside. It leads down to a huge multilevel complex built underneath the lush land: the headquarters of a mastermind that has a full blown and supposedly fool-proof plan to become the ruler of all that we hold dear.
The battle occurs upside on open ground, with rain falling to add to the confusion; and underground in dark, gloomy test labs, empty corridors, offices, and the resting place of the final boss.
Kane encounters the final boss, and for a short time, his jaw drops to the floor. Then it all makes sense. The best friend that claimed to be his friend since childhood. The best friend that Kane could not recall having. The best friend called Vladimir Radev. It all makes sense now. Taking use of Kane’s amnesia, he made up a false story of him being Kane’s best friend. Radev sabotaged him from the beginning.
Kane, boiling with fury, plunges into the heat headfirst, willing to rip Radev’s heart out, just to see what a black heart looks like.
When it is over, Kane stands beaten down, but not beaten: tired, but not defeated. He gets his daughter and walks out of the place and away from his past.
The sun begins to rise as he walks out of the farmhouse and into the morning.
A new morning…
