Having owned just about every popular games console since the days of Pong, I have seen the trends come and go and the tired old discussion of "my console is better than your console" continue time and time again. Why?
In my console collection I own the following: NES, SuperNES, Master System, Megadrive, Mega CD, 32x, Super Gameboy, Gameboy, Jaguar, Atari 2600, Saturn, Playstation, N64, Dreamcast & PC.
The fact remains that each of these has great games and equally bad games. I really wouldn't favour N64 over Playstation or Saturn over Dreamcast.. I enjoy all the good games each has to offer.
If I had to choose just one of these systems for whatever reason it would have to be the Super NES without a doubt. Graphically superb (for it's day and limitations)and with an excellent selection of games, the SNES was a masterful console.
For the controversy here, the one I would ditch (after Jaguar & 2600) would have to be the Playstation. Ok, it has some pretty good games but overall never has a system be so overhyped and been allowed to release such a high quota of sub-standard rubbish. Even the decent games are graphically very poor with extreme polygon break up, glitching, pop-up and a very grainy and blocky look to all but a few of the games released.
But this said, I wouldn't say the Playstation is a bad console. Like I said it has good games and bad games, as do all the others. There is no one supreme console.. each does what it does well and each one messes up big time occasionally. The sooner people realise this the better.
I just hate the shallow arguements about how some Playstation owners wouldn't be seen dead playing an N64 or whatever. How come? Well, actually I don't really care. If you really want to be that sad and miss out on the other consoles' finest then that's your choice.

You have quite a collection. I have an old 16-bit Sega Megadrive that has been shoved to the back of my wardrobe now I have the N64. I'm imagining my N64 covered in dust in the back of my wardrobe while the Dolphin/Starcube gets prime of place, plugged into the TV. Ahhhh, pointless nostalgia........

Having said that, the PlayStation has really brought gaming to the masses since Sony advertised it as a Lifestyle console, which means more people can enjoy it without being stereotyped as geeks. One problem with this is that we get constant re-releases of what the public "Wants to see", (i.e. A cack game that will sell shedloads every year.), FIFA being a classic example. I'm perfectly happy to play on any console that has good games, and try to stay without prejudice and not claim to be loyal to any one company, therefore trying to convince myself that playing FIFA 235346545 is a better game than ISS Pro 3 because it's on the Playsation 6 (Or whatever we're on by that time)
