Does anyone read these? when I get a new game I take the cart/cd out of the box and plug it straight in, the manual just seems to be protection for the game.
instructions for instalation are only needed for people who enjoy reading everything, controls and options are all in the game + it's more fun finding out the controls on your own, it's not rocket science anyway.

The manual to Alpha Centauri is a 300 page novel! But you sure as hell need it if you're going to play the game properly.

I used to read the manuals when I was coming back in the car from the shop, but now I get my games from SR so it's straight in the machine. Now I read the manuals when my little brother is playing on the game (I get first turn always).

In a game like Banjo Kazooie you get taught the moves anyway so it doesn't matter about the manual.

Everyone knows how to "switch" your console on haha but special moves and instructions are explained in depth. In dino crises when the word danger appears i thought it was a cut scene and didn't do anything, I looked at the manual and it says press every button rapidly to survive d'oh.

Manual's are there if you need them and can be very helpfull.

I always fill out those competition Survey thingies that fall out of manuals, and then never post them.

i always read the manuals , like chu chu rocket on gba , i got a bit bored (after 5 mins actually !) coz i didn't know what the controls were , then i read the manual and i instantly got more involed in the game .... i knew how to play it !!! manuals are ace !! they give you something to read through , know the ins and outs of the game and they fill out the box a little bit !

I always read the manual before I play my new game. For me, it's the computer game equivalent of foreplay.

ok, so theres an exception to the rule, but most PC games have readme files or the whole manual on acrobat files, so there no need for thos chunky things, Trainsim had a huge manual, and I guess it's common sense to read it front to back if you pay £40 for the game. Most console games don't have enough info that I can't play the game without knowing and havn't already seen or heard, so I don't bother.

+ Fantasy Meister, did you fight you cat on Ready to Rumble boxing yet?

Me too, I read them back to front and seem to get more out of the game that way. I agree it's not difficult to pick up the controls as you go along, but if you're playing something like Sim City or MechWarrior you need that 94 page manual for sure.

I always read the manuals to games for a number of reasons: To make sure I will know all the controlls, to know the background story and to get more exited about the game. like the trailers at the cinema, its all part of the experience.
