The 'Always do this for software and games' box always resets to unchecked, so my CD/DVDs never autoplay when I insert them.
Is there a registry hack or other setting I need to adjust to 'unlock' this?

The full autoplay control panel already had the 'run software...' selected, but the 'do this for all media' was unchecked, so I checked it, saved it, came out, went back in and it had saved. Needless to say, the DVD autoplayed.
I still don't understand why the context menu option doesn't save.

It looks like something has locked me out from changes.

If you've tried changing the autorun option when the dialogue box pops up after inserting a DVD I would try going directly to the AutoPlay option in Control Panel (or just type autoplay on the start/search). Then set the options as you need and 'save'.
