Anyway, as for the cheating I think that you're spot on. I love cheats that enhance the gaming experience rather than destroy it. The only thing I don't agree with is that there should be some way of letting people go onto the next level if they have tried their best, but still can't do it. I think that a better idea would to be some sort of option in a game where you can forfit a mission. This should come with some sort of drawbacks, for example, not getting a power up or missing out on a secret latter in the game. That way, you can keep playing the game, even after you get stuck on one mission, but still have incentive to keep playing that mission until you complete it.
As for the guides, I think you're completly right. After I had completed Zelda, I could hardly be bothered to search out every Skulltula in the game. It's just too boring- the oposite of what games should be. The same applies to games that just seem to go on and on, eg. Soul Reaver. I did most of that game with a guide, not because I am crap at games (I'm quite good actually), but rather to get the satisfaction of coming face-to-face with the bosses and then working out how to kill them myself. It kept me going right to the end of the game, and made sure the game kept the fun factor that it should.
