WIth high definition graphics the game looks great, at times with plenty of gunfire and explosions going on around you it really does set the atmosphere of war very well. Explosions look great, after effects of grenades etc - little things that add to the overall experience.
Sadly the story is a bit poor - unfortunately most war storylines have either been done before or are just too bad to make a decent game out off. It's much more of the - go to this point, shoot some bad guys on the way then move onto the next point of interest. It lacks that certain something special that makes it different enough from other war based shooters to make it stand out.
Enemy AI has been stepped up a bit but they still do very stupid things like run straight towards you and your gunfire or stand around close to your grenades.
Controls are very straight forward and easy to use although there are a few points in the game that require certain button combos to either plant a bomb or fight off an enemy that can be quite tricky to do.
Looking at the release lists for the 360 there is yet another medal of honour game and a band of brothers game due out this year - so if you haven't already purchased Call of Duty 3 you may wish to wait for one of those instead.
Unless of course you play a lot of your gaming on Xbox live...
Online play is where this game improves a lot. With the choice of the type of soldier you want to be and an array of weapons and vehicles to use on the battlefield things get a little more interesting. With the choice of player and ranked matches it has everything for the serious gamer or those just out for a quick play and a laugh with friends. The usual game modes are included too - capture the flag, battle and a headquarters mode which sees teams fight to defend a headquarter base and prevent the enemy team from taking control of it.
It's a lot of fun and works a lot better than the single player mode, its a lot more realistic and enjoyable - even playing the same maps over and over doesn't seem to get repetitive enough to make you stop playing. Also with the choice of soldiers available to choose from there are plenty of personal challenges and achievements to achieve in the multiplayer game.
The single player is enjoyable to play through, well worth renting to check out or picking up cheap if you can find a bargain. Online play is where things get better and it will provide a lot of enjoyment - sadly though it isn't a must have game and you'll find better offline and online games on the 360. Fans of call of duty 2 will love it but others may get bored a little too quickly.
A decent game but sadly nothing too special.
