Reactions might not be the right word, because we can't exactly do anything about the games, BUT do we want to.

Okay so your first impressions of Zelda might have spouted a few profanities or sunk some hearts but Nintendo have done nothing wrong...

Bonus will second my first opinions of Zelda through a MSN conversation we had and you all read my feelings in Meka's thread I added too for which I must apologise with regards to the use of profanity...

But for months we have been moaning that no games are original... people complained that GT3 wasn't unique enough and that is just stood on the shoulders of GT2 to get into the ratings...

Here's your originality, The Legend of Zelda, okay so CEL shading is nothing new and all of you who are familiar with Jet Set Radio (Dreamcast) will know what CEL chading can do or does do for a game. But there isn't anything wrong with the game... the storylinie will be fine, the graphics DO COUNT but no one complained about JSR and all the PS2 lovers don't have to comment.. they don't have to play Zelda so they can shut up...

I know this contradict my previous feeling towards the game, but if you think it over, it'll be quite fun and with CEL chading you can alter the animations, make them ad ludacrous as you want and you can get away with it... You all saw the PIG guards... right! LMAO!

On to Mario, and the game that I though was the most promising out of the lot! I love Mario... yes I am 17, but you've gotta admit he's pretty cool and easy to laugh at or laugh with.

What caught my eye was the thing on his back... a vaccum cleaner?! What was it?!... I've tried enlarging screen shots i've tried slowing the video... goodness knows i've tried yelling at the screen, I guess it's something we'll have to wait for...

Another thing was the Day/Night 'SUN' in the top right... Hopefully Miyamoto won't have incorporated the not-so-popular Zelda: MM idea into a game that could sell the Gamecube sooooo well! Hopefully the sun plays a different kind of role in the game, but details aside the game looked amazing... the vintage Mario themes were there, the SM64 moves were there and by the looks of things, you don't need to use many buttons... another Miyamoto one-button-wonder in the works?! (God, that got my tongue!)

Over all the whole thing seemed to go in a flash... I haven't been on the net much over the past few days so I didn't prepare for the news... (Thanks Bonus!)

Most Ninties other than my two brothers took to the new Zelda well, I had my doubts but even if Zelda sucks, which it probably won't, there is always Mario and he is THE MAN!

God, I love Mario! He's a dude!

I couldn't quite make out the Zelda storyline from the pics... but then again, show a guy 25 masks and a flying bug/monster with a green hood and ask him what'll come out of it in 1.5 years time!

Overall, the few impressions I did get were good, and all though it's 'the same old cartoony stuff' it is a good job, because there is no way we'll see Retro or Rare make a game like that... Nintendo only make these games because on-one else can or would!!

I'm not as ecstatic about Zelda as I am Mario and it's a good job Mario'll be around first... for me anyway. I think Mario will be one of the next few GAD's I earn... God willing I win again...

Anyway... please post your thoughts and try to be mature about it... don't slág off the games but try to think why Nintendo took the route they did...

Heh... as long as I get to play that Mario game I don't give a Spicy Orange controller what Zelda turns out like....

The games I've seen so far have impressed me and I think i'll get...

Luigi's Mansion
SSB: Melee
Mario
Zelda
StarFox Adventures: DP
DKR

6 Games.... I think i'll make enough GAD's between now and the time they've all arrived...

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Please... post your thoughts...

Funny I liked Day of the Tentacle but it lead to so many greater things, PC gaming will always remain my largest diversion. Still, you can't help but give in to the Siren's call of another bout of wrestling on WWF: No Mercy.

It's quite possible that I'll have a Gamecube and X-Box, but I wonder if it's worth getting the X-Box. Sure it's more convienient and quicker to get into games than a PC, but is it worth the extra effort? The PC is what makes progress, consoles just seem to try to push themselves forwards with things the PC could do a year before. No it's not entirely accurate but that's what it seems to be.

You should certainly try PC gaming again, go for an RPG if a FPS is not your thing, or a RTS is never a bad idea (though there have been few especially brilliant original ones recently). Black & White should appeal to all but the most picky grumpy people, the sort that complain if everything isn't 100% realistic but have this funny idea that flying in a spaceship shooting down alien fighters is something that happens every day.

The more I think about it the more I want to play a Mario RPG, could there be any better coming together of two forces? Well, perhaps if Bowser and Mario teamed up against a greater foe, now that would be interesting!

Gronti: Evil? Nah...

You just need to play a few Nintendo classics for a few hours...

I can see why some people don't like Nintendo...

They're better than everyone else.
They have some crap games: Superman, Tetrisphere
They top games are the best ever...

Anyhoo...

I wonder if the later date for the US launch will affect the minds of buyers... I suppose those who do their shopping early will want to get it out of the way so they buy and X-Box... but believe me... Time is the only thing on the X-Box's side... Nintendo will come out of the Jungle(Gym) and pounce upon the Microsoft empire... tickling them until they give up and oppose Nintendo's plastic gaming crown no more!

I'll still get a Gamecube... X-Box seems like a 5 game wonder and the games don't really appeal to me... Halo is too PCie and I never really took to PC gaming... other than Day of the Tentacle...:D

It's funny, The PS2 seems to have faded into the background amidst all this Nintendo news... and forthcoming battle between the big N and the not-so-big M.

I hope the PS2 burns and dies... sorry I shouldn't have written that... it should be in brackets... :)

Ah............ If you haven't downloaded the Mario vid from Spaceworld... do it NOW!

I still think there's going to be a GBA link between Mario and Luigi's Mansion... There has to be... Mario packs what looks to me like a light bulb/power supply and luigi's got a vaccum cleaner... i'm not sure how they link quite, but they must do... Night/Sunshine Mario/Luigi Vaccum/Power Source.... Hopefully IGN will clear things up....

I agree with that, but I still think it would have me in tears laughing when I was actually putting a skill point on Wrench use. Heh, or better still "Koopa distraction"... MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA. Hmm, that was perhaps too evil a laugh.

Hmmmm..... interesting... as you said...

I think maybea Mario RPG would be a little more diluted than that... sticking to HP instead of hearts and having a set of no more than say... 5 weapons/tools he can use... but not for pipes etc... for things like getting past enemies dn solving VERY basic puzzles...

and NO i'm not suggesting these things because Mario is for kids so Nintendo can't make it too hard... it's just that Mario is great the way he is and if we add too much more it might taint the excitement provided by the vintage Mario games and style... Yes?

They should spit goombas at you, the cads. A Mario RPG would be interesting... "My Mario is a level 23 Mage!". Not likely is it. A level 23 Plumber perhaps. Still, there are many ways of doing RPGs and you could give him skill points in things like: Coin finding (allows him to gain extra coins from chests), Wrench usage (allows him to bash enemies harder with the wrench as well as tightening his nuts faster), Plunger usage (allows him to stun enemies and unblock pipes to go through easier), Plunger gun (prerequisite= Plunger usage, allows him to stun enemies with a plunger at range) and so forth. A Mario RPG could be good.

I don't know how many of you are familiar with The Avengers, but in 1998 there was an Avengers film made... the bad guy controlled the weather and made the community buy the weather from him...

In Mario Sunshine the coins Mario collects have pictures of sunshines on them.... maybe these coijns play a part in the game... on thing I didn't see was Mario get hurt... if he has hearts like in SM64 then hopefully the coins can play a bigger part... he might be able to trade these coins to a sunshine man to either

A) Pay for sunshine ala Avengers
B) Buy stuff from shop keepers (RPG-ish)
C) Both of the above and more...

Hopefully the game will rock big time... I'd be content with running about that island all day, but that's me... :P

I'm still convinced that Mario can control the weather in a way...

Also, did you notice that those big giant walking turnip on legs thingy picks up / eats those goombas... he/it might just squash them, but he/it seems to make them disappear...

Interesting... the 'easy-to-develop-for-ness' of the GC has really opened up doors for Miyamoto and his team... lets hope they can delve into their brains and bring us more suprised...

I get the feeling you're a mario fan. Still, I see the point your trying to make, that it's gameplay over eye candy that should make a game (a-la GTA). It's one that everyone knows well, but it's quite often ignored so it's good to repeat it, gameplay is more important than graphics by the way. It's like in your post, it's the quality of what you say rather than your spelling and grammar that counts ryt? Why? Because it's the idea that's important not minor typing mistakes and the like. Hmm, probably shouldn't start a sentence with "because".

Of course games could always have both graphics and gameplay, but there is another element. Max Payne, for example, has good graphics and brilliant gameplay (made pretty much entirely by the bullet time, without which it would just be "go round corner, shoot, die") and it's length is quite acceptable for the style of game. You might disagree with me on that, because it's certain that a lot of work went into the gameplay and graphics but some people may have felt that there wasn't enough game (you greedy sod). It's like in Startopia, which was only 10 levels, it was a great game, had good graphics but lost a lot of points on being too short. Would Baldur's Gate and the sequal have been as popular if they much shorter, even if they had better graphics? There is a lot to a game and you must take everything into account before you judge it. What makes a good game? It varies from style to style.

Anyway, I haven't heard a thing about any of the Gamecube's progress so I'll have to do some catching up, but I can't see how it could be bad. That's something I'll have to do.

Of course, we're only at day 1 of SpaceWorld, so expect plenty of rumours coming in the next few days, and probably something confirmed regarding online play, Pokemon, and 3rd party release titles.

I can't wait to get home and download the latest videos, and the Luigis Mansion commercial has now gone online too!

I've just looked at the (Mario) video again and I THINK that the Sun thingy is to do with the sea tide... the game level seems to be surrounded by water and the water meter inside the sun thingy fluxuates (changes)... Hopefully there'll be a lot more to the game than meets the eye... i'm not asking for a full-on RPG, but little bits incorporated here and there can't be bad!

Maybe that thing on his back is just a back pack... to store all the 'stuff' he aquires on his journey...

God I Soooooooooooo want to play that game....
