"At the pre-Spaceworld press conference, Shigeru Miyamoto demonstrated the much-vaunted connectivity between Gamecube and Game Boy Advance, and as you'd expect from a company with Nintendo's record of innovation, it's much more than just a secret screen for choosing options in a sports game.
Two titles were shown - Flippin' Kirby and Animal Forest. In Animal Forest, a communication game already released for N64, players can plug the GBA (without a cartridge) into Gamecube and download certain mini-games. Sailing to an island in the Gamecube version, Miyamoto showed how the game switches to GBA mode at specific points - in this instance, it was possible to use the GBA to customise the costumes of various characters. It's actually a very good game, and will get an English translation early next year. The N64 version is designed to be played by several people, and features such delights as being able to wander into a friend's house and steal his stereo. Click here for a movie from Nintendo's Japanese Spaceworld site.
Flippin' Kirby made the best use of the link cable, with simultaneous play on GBA and GC. It's an update of the excellent Koro Koro Kirby, a GBC title that features a built in motion sensor for rolling Kirby around mazes without touching the d-pad. This new version also has a motion sensor, but now tilting the GBA makes Kirby roll around on the Gamecube!
Better still, Miyamoto showed how, by rolling Kirby off certain platforms on the Gamecube, he'll 'fall' out of the TV and land in the GBA screen. Giving the GBA a sharp flick upwards will bounce Kirby back into the Gamecube.
The GBA connection cable will also be used for downloading games embedded in Gamecube discs to rewritable GBA cartridges. It's on sale in Japan in December, priced at 1400 Yen (around £10)."
Interesting huh?
Do you see?
> It's a PDA then, like the Pocket Station.
Except for the fact that the GBA is also a handheld console in it's own right....
