Thankfully unlike allot of today's consumer products games consoles are not sold on there styling (or at least not until version 2 PSOne, Megadrive 2 etc).
If consoles were based on their design then do you really think the new Nintendo or Microsoft consoles would sell?

I have in my lounge (sitting room, front room etc) a Silver TV cabinet with glass door together with a Silver DVD player and silver video recorder. Hidden away along with the digi box is my PS2, although the PS2 does look "OK" it's black. If I got an X box I think I would have to hide it behind my ugly beige PC as that looks better. As for the Gamecube, well at least it's not black and it's supposedly small but I don't want one (well I don't unless sonics any good).

I'm not saying that any other console are designed well but on looks alone I would rather a little PSOne sat under my TV than a big black chunky PS2 on even worse possibility of code name Brick (X-Box) sat under my TV.

Have Sony, Microsoft or Even Nintendo herd of contemporary design? TV's, VCR's even microwaves have more styling than a modern console. Nokia learnt that people like to be individual and brought out coloured facia's. The only thing we have had close to coloured consoles were the limited edition coloured N64's.

Wouldn't Sony or Microsoft sold more consoles if they were designed better or even offered in a choice of colours?
Is it not in their interests to offer consoles that blend in with other modern consumer electronics? After all we must remember that both Sony and Microsoft consoles lead a double life as "Home Entertainment Units".

In conclusion console makers are either oblivious to the fact that video games consoles have evolved and progressed from children's toys to consumer devices or a more likely story is that the consoles were rushed through research and design that fast that styling was totally forgotten or at least until sales are slow and they realise a "stylish" console could boost sales.

Everyone's different anyway, and catering to all those other fools needs would be a waste of time. If I like it it's good, if not then change it. BWAHAHAHAHAAAAA.

Seriously though, I like the sandwich boxey kind of look. Anyway, isn't it the games that are important? Well, maybe not, there is such a thing as loyalty (That means you, you Nintendo to Sony people, and anyone who went from sega to Nintendo, and anyone who went from...).

I can see what you are meaning but don't you think if consoles started releasing facia's then it would be yet another way of sony, nintendo, etc. squeezing yet more hard-earned cash from the consumer?

Would you not prefer you console to be THE best and have all (or at least most) of the great games coming out on your console rather than just having an attractive box?

You could just decorate a cardboard box, or perhaps even spray paint you console (I would probably check the manual first, :) hehe).

Not everything can be aesthetically pleasing to the eye but just think of the hours of entertainment quasi-console gives you and you'll realise it is a small price to pay.

Styling? I don't care! Its in my bedroom! Style, Pah.

What realy matters is this, what do you look at when you play your games? Your tv yes thats right your tv. Not, I repeat Not you console. But if would be nice to see some other cool colours. N64 went iMac style and they look pretty cool. You can get sticker kits for the ps1 I think.

It dosen't really matter. Maybe I need some more of the good stuff eh? Drin......... I mean sleep.

Personally I like the idea of saying "my sandwich box has more processing power than yours!". I really like the look of the Gamecube, it's got the confidence to be different. Though I worry that I may get hungry and mistakenly eat the contents of it.

Purple's not that bright!

However, the 'Spice Orange' colour the Japanese are getting looks fantastic!

Most consumer electronics are black, silver or grey though - so all of the consoles will blend in quite nicely.

With the possible exception of a brightly-coloured GameCube!
