Folks,

I can't seem to find a release date for Madden 2002 - according to a different web site it was released Monday, but I can't get a solid confirmation on this, and I can't see a release date mentioned on this web site either.

Having been abraod for a week working, I'm out of touch on the latest releases, but would really like to know if this game is out yet, or when it is due to be released?

Madden 2002 has made some significant steps (allegedly), rather than the small tweaks that a majority of people expected.

Firstly, the player modelling has been improved, making size and weight differences between players far more apparent. There are many additional player animations included, for tackling, diving, receiving etc. There have been steps made to make the gameplay more realistic, you may of noticed how hard it was to sack the opposing QB when playing, run with any success to the outside or stop the CPU passing irrespective of how good your defence was. All this has been taken into account, along with a new 'Widescreen' method of viewing the game, so that all receivers can be seen at the same time.

EA have reduced the amount of spectacular plays, in an attempt to make the game more realistic. Not quite as many 'highlight reel' catches that always seem to confound you when playing. Loads more off the field animations are promised, with more coach animations and player reactions to big plays, more stuff for players to nail as they crash out of bounds, which is good fun.

There are a couple of extra additions to the PS2 version for 2002, you can create your own team, uniform and mascots and so on. New Madden Cards (including Cheerleaders, hooray!), the inclusion of the Houston Texans and the new league layout.

If I were you I'd wait for the 2002 version, it promises to fix all the glitches that 2001 suffered from and even if it doesn't, you'll at least have the most current version.

It's out in the US this month. We get it next month, according to a friend of mine who's a HUGE fan of the sport and the game.

21st September I'm told.
