I'm using an unofficial rgb scart on my PS2, and with RGB mode on the system settings it works fine, except on DVD's, which come out green. I've got dvd region-x, which plays all regions in colour, but I would prefer not to bother with that every time I use a region 2 disc which should work without region x anyway. So do I need an official rgb scart cable, or is it that you can't play DVD'S in colour on PS2 with any rgb scart cable, just games.
Please don't tell me that's the case, that would be stupid-upid.

well, wookie, u have proved my point! If macrovision was implemented, there would be no need for green RGB- after all, any other dvd player can play through rgb leads!

So why then was it missed (the rgb support that is!)

I simply said that that was the official line from Sony.

I do however find it hard to believe that they would simply 'forget' to include Macrovision.

If they implemented it properly then there would be no reason for the RGB problem... after all, RGB is already supported by games, so to program it for films must be very easy.

One more thing. Why are you believing Sony- they have yet to give a genuine reason for the problem!

According to Sony, PS2 does support Macrovision.

It's an integral part of the DVD standard, which Sony were a major part of developing, so it's unlikely that they overlooked it.

Actually, things are different. The reason for poor recording if you were to plug any old DVD into a VCR is because the signal is encoded just to prevent you from copying from DVD to VCR... macromedia encryption methinks.

Sony clearly rushed the design of the PS2, and couldn't implement Macromedia encryption in time. SO in order to not be sued in accordance to DVD rules (which say players must not allow DVD to video copying), Sony just made DVD's green through RGB! Great!

You shouldn't have any problem recording from the S-VHS connection.

Though of course, this *would* be a theoretical question, wouldn't it? You're not actually telling the world that you want to copy DVDs...

Yep, but what I said earlier is the official line from Sony. They also say that the PS2 does support Macrovision, though, so everyone so far is at a loss when explaining the reasoning behind it.
