How disappointing. Although not very surprising.
I make no secret on my opinions of SA2. I love Sega. I love Nintendo. But this game is rubbish. Do Nintendo really want a game, which is going to be a big name release, that was originally released at the end of one systems life to feature in the line up at the beginning of their new one?
Of course not. Hang on a minute, I think you'll find I'm wrong there and that this is a great peice of news.
You see, there are a lot of Sega fans out there who are being forced into making a decision on what system they migrate to next now that their beloved Dreamcast is no more (I should know 'cos I'm one of them). They're going to look at what offers them the best in something new while, as the same, time providing something they are a little more familair with. There has always been the rivalry between Sega and Nintendo fans but surely at some point even the most dedicated of fans has looked across at their rival's games and though 'hey, that actually seems really good, it's a shame I can't play it on my machine'.
We'll this is the first step in making that possible. OK so they're picked a less that great game to start bridging the gap with but it's a start. The idea that Sega has chosen Nintendo to share it's most beloved franchise with (twice - there's Sonic Advance as well) is a great sign that two of the greatest games developers are going hand in hand (and so closely) is potentially a great one. The next step is a game developed between them. Just how long have they been this close? What are they thinking? Whatever it is, it's going to be special.
Sony barged in and stole their thunder but are they teaming up for a fight back. Ooooh it's all just sooo exciting ( (c) Graham Norton, Every edition of So Graham Norton )
The future's bright. The future's Orange. Or purple. Or black. Or whatever colour GameCube you buy.
My future will probably be silver :)
Secondly, there are not many real "sega fans" out there. Most of the Sega generation took up the PSX after the Mega Drive and demise of the Saturn- the DC user base is very small in comparison to this.
Now, as for the conversion of games... Ninty is getting a VERY raw deal from sega. Whereas The Xbox is getting Jet Set Radio Future as an exclusive (as well as the sequal to MSR), and PS2 fans are getting Virtua Tennis, and Crazy Taxi, Ninty is just getting some stupid monkeyball game (soory, but it's a puzzle game... not a "real" game!), and a port of Sonic 2... far inferior to sonic adventure 1. Infact, I go the game as a GAD prize 2 days ago.. already completed the "hero side" of the game!
However, saying that, Japanese fans will love Sega for this! The Saturn did reasonably well in Japan... only about 6 months ago did Capcom release a new fighter for the console!
Oh, and to answer your question, Sega and Ninty are v close... expect them to announce a joint online network at Spaceworld. Saying that, Sega, Sony and Namco have teamed up in arcades, and Ninty and Sony both partly own one developer... very odd time for games eh!
Look at Monkey Ball.
All the Xbox and PS2 are getting are old conversions of DC games. The Gamecube is the first to get something new from Sega.
slik ~_~

Just thought I'd point out the mistake before anyone else did.
