I have a widescreen TV and none of the games I've so far owned seem to pay any attention to it. The hardware is set to widescreen, and none of the games I've owned have an option for widescreen TVs.
All games appear in normal 4:3, which means I usually either have to make do with a quarter of the screen unused, or set the TV to Wide and have a stretched image.
On a few games I can use 14:9 or Zoom, but usually this results in the loss of status bars and gauges off of the top or bottom of the screen.
If needs be i have a 16:9 button on my remote to view widescreen dvds.
